Flames decline due to cap. Kapenen is going to get a raise and we can't afford that

He's gonna get less than what he's making this year. His qualifying offer is 875k

I dont think the fairness is what matters but maybe a mid rnd pick or something. Flames have too many guys to sign this off season so I dont see them wanting to add another rfa. Im assuming Kapanen will want at least a small raise which Flames cant afford at the moment.

We expect Kapanen to get a little less than what he's making this year actually. His qualifying offer is 875k

His QO is only 874K. But he has arbitration rights. He won’t get the 3.2M he gets this season though. I would say he gets 2.2M-2.75M

Less than $3.2m??? If that happens he should probably look for a new agent. No way a 40-50pt scoring 25 yr old is taking a pay cut.

Trust me. He's not happy about his performance the past month and he'll understand

I like J.Välimäki. I’m a fan. But in what world do Pens need another LHD.?? They are paying three LHD 4M plus and long term(Dumoulin, Pettersson, Matheson). And their top prospect, PO-J has already proved he’s NHL ready in his NHL PT. Pens can’t even find much PT for him though.

And you can see it even on capfriendly. Literally every teams fans have posted a trade trying to acquire Kappy. If a fraction of real life NHL GMs are interested then Pens are gonna be able to negotiate and pick the best offer.

Is Kappy in the doghouse, yes. But he is undeniably talented. It’s why the Pens traded a 15th overall pick and a “B”/“B-“ prospect for him just a year and a half ago.

He’s a .5 -.75 PPG player even playing poorly. That’s a good “floor”. Let him get hot for acouple weeks and he’s a 20 goal scorer again.

I feel like ur contradicting urself. What u say about his floor and goal production doesnt back up that ur saying hes gonna get 2.2-2.7. Arbiters look pretty heavily at production so they will take his side. He gets over 3 for sure.

I disagree. He had a 30 points in 40 games last seasson and got 3.2M(.75PPG). Was plus(+)15. And had arbitration rights last season too.

Has 26 points in 54 games this season(.48PPG). He’s minus(-) 1. Again, I bet 2.25M-2.75M.

I think u gotta check ur facts. He signed his current contract with the leafs after his first full season in the nhl. He did not have arb rights last season because he was still under contract.

Ohh ya, he did have this deal last year and coming over from the Leafs.

So he got 3.2M after a 20 goal and 44 point season in 2018-19. Ya, hes defieny getting less than the 3.2M.

I really dont want to sound mean or rude when I say this but Its going to come across that way. I am getting the sense you either havent been following hockey for that long or just dont understand the money side of the league.

Lol. We’ll see. I’m not the only one that doesn’t think he’s NOT gonna get a raise. You’re the one on an island here.

Every Pens article written. Every Pens beat writer, analysts, blogger has writtten or given interviews saying the same thing as me. That he’s not gonna get 3.2M per. Especially if he signs long-term.

And no, I’m 38 years old and been a Pens fan my whole life. Have a good day, this is getting stupid. We are gonna start going in circles and repeating ourself using semantics and rhetoric. Agree to disagree.

Yeah I guess we will have to agree to disagree. If your looking at it from strictly a penguins perspective and all ur reading is from a pens perspective then I see how you can see it that way. The arbiter isnt a penguins fan or someone who covers the penguins tho. And Im certainly not on an island, the first article when I googled kapanen contract projection was a dobber prospect page putting him at $4.5m.
