Canadiens Rebuild Year 1

Team: 2022-23 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 10, 2022
Published: Mar. 10, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Players that were pending FAs have had their contract extended by one year to facilitate trades at the 2022 NHL Trade Deadline.

Chiarot is traded, but Lehkonen stays.

Montreal loses the Draft Lottery and picks 3rd. The pick is used to select Matthew Savoie. Ivan Miroshnichenko and his Hodgkin’s lymphoma diagnosis causes him to fall to the Canadiens’ second first round pick in the mid-20s, acquired in the Tyler Toffoli trade.

Canadiens buyout Byron as they cannot find any team interested.

Under new head coach Martin St. Louis (loses the interim tag) the Canadiens remain at the bottom of the standings, however Cole Caufield continues to progress extremely well.

It’s not like Montreal needs to move Weber’s contract, but what does Arizona give up to take it and get them to the floor? They’ll need some salary paid especially if they’re moving Chychrun.

The Rangers are not trading Lundqvist for a 3rd pair rental D. Easy NO.

Like the thinking, I think they're going to chase a 2nd/3rd centerman at the free agent market and trade Dvorak during the summer. I also doubt they're going to draft a 5"7 centerman with Caufield, Suzuki, Evans, Pitlick, Lehkonen, Gallagher under 6 foots. Rangers fans are highly going to disagree with Lundkvist being trade for Chiarot, maybe Zac Jones could be an option?

I think Hughes wants a RD (Jones is a LD) so the only one I would think they’d be after is Lundkvist. Perhaps Montreal throws in another asset to make it work.

I’m pretty high on Savoie but I’d love if the Habs went on a tank next year too to try and get Bedard. Savoie is 5’9 per EP and HDB and he’s 18 so there’s still time to grow. I think Suzuki is 5’10.

I’m not opposed to being bad if it means our cupboards are stocked and our team gets younger.

Oh you're right-didn't realize Jones was a lefty. But ya probably have to throw in an asset. Maybe he would try to make a bigger deal for Schneider at this point...

Yeah Suzuki is 5’10” but he’s built; he weighs like 210. Interesting fact I learned today, Crosby is only 5’11”
