The only reason Marino is more valuable is he’s signed long term; till 2027 and at only 4.4M. Which looks like a steal with what quality D-man are being paid. And with Letang being a UFA at years end and Pens next best RHD would be Ruhwedel and a guy named Maniscalco. It makes no sense to move Marino.

If that’s what it takes; I think the Pens will make one or two minor moves. Pens are gonna go as far as Jarry takes them anyways.

And Letang wants a 5 year deal. Hextall/Burke want to give him 2-3 year. And all reports say Letang wants 7-8M per. And he’ll probably get that and 5 years somewhere else. Like Montreal.

And Lemieux/Burkle sold the team to the Fenway group. They have no allegiance to Letang. Letang has said “he feels he can play forever”. And he’s played through bumbs and bruises this season, making sure he plays a full season. In a contract year. That tells me he wants to cash in their offseason.

And Burke and Hextall want to rebuild. You can tell with everything they have been saying and doing.

Burke and Hextall want to rebuild. They don’t want to sign Letang past 2-3 seasons.

It makes no sense for the Pens to move Marino, and it makes even less sense for them to acquire Boeser. Sure, he'd be a great on-ice fit, but they already need to ship out salary this offseason to fit in extensions for Geno, Letang, and Rust. Given that Boeser is due a 7.5 million dollar qualifying offer this offseason, his contract situation is just a non-starter. Won't happen. No way, no how.

Ya, Letang is the most likely to go. I think people are mistaking about Rust. I think he knows what he’s got playing with Sid. And will sign 5-6 yrs @ 6M per(same as Guentzel). 6.25M-6.5M at most. That’s a 30M-39M deal. That’s a heavy contract in the NHL. Especially for a winger.

And Geno will resign. 2-3 year deal worth 7.5M-8M and then take off to Russia and retire there. Like he’s always said he would. And Geno said “Im a very rich man, im not worried about money” when asked about an extension. He’ll stay in Pgh.

Letang gone!! Sucks, he’s still a top 3 point on the PP in the whole NHL. The Pens PP won’t be the same without him. But Burke/Hextall arnt going 5 years on a deal that will take Letang till 40 years old. Montreal will. And that’s Letang’s hometown.

And as far as Marino. He ranks 3rd on the team in ice-time. A right-handed defensemen who can move the puck, skate out of trouble, has a high hockey IQ, has play-off experience and is just 24 years old. They don’t grow on trees. Pens could get more for him in the future too.
