this a respectable offer, but not for retention on his contract though. for that you would have to give a top prospect.

Sincerely. it really weird you are trying to trade dumba. Truly. But like it's been mentioned, wild aren't trading dumba. If they do, it won't be on division. Dumba buying a house here says more than likely, he's taking a pay cut to stay in Minnesota long term.

To address your Jacob trade: you are overvaluing Jim. He's not worth the same package eichel got and more.

He skated hard, finished checks and covered his defensive assignments with no gaffes. Not sure how that constitutes “very meh” considering he arrived a day before the game.

Since when is he taking a pay cut here to stay long term? He is already over paid?

What is the thought process behind Chych? Like why not just pursue a significantly cheaper to acquire alternative. He hits UFA during the last year of the 14M dead cap, so you can’t re-sign him.

Are you trying to be a contender during the heavy buyout years? And then have empty cupboards once those penalties finally expire?

Just more of nothing special, obviously I think there's room for improvement putting him on L1

He bought a house here a few weeks ago to move in with his girlfriend. The work he's doing here in the community since George's floyd's death and him talking repeatedly about loving Minnesota. Also the fact there has been no report that Minnesota has had any sort of extension talk with fiala speak volumes. Guerin seems to already have made a decision when fiala essentially asked for kaprizov's money and didn't back down. Russo reported that fiala was almost traded past summer because of how heated negotiations were.

I mean this team would contend through the buyout years, you aren't touching any of the top 3 prospects in the deal. The cupboards wouldn't be empty, but they also have more than a full "roster" of prospects right now that project to play NHL time, so if you can keep yourself as a contender throughout the buyout years, I don't see a problem with that. Given he has 4 years left, you would hope one of the 4 (3 after this trade) LD's that project to play top 4 minutes would be ready to slide in and you could 1) move him at the deadline 2) Just let him walk.

Do I need to repost the direct quote that you thought was saying the wild don't want Fiala, but was actually saying if Dumba wants a raise he will be traded?

Also, Jason Zucker? Did he not do anything for the community? Could his family literally not move with him and Guerin traded him anyways? Literally every single thing about this Dumba not being moved because he is too engrained we've already seen play out under Guerin, he doesn't care.

Ah shoot I’m sorry, for some reason I had him as 2 years. So he technically does expire at the same time the heavy buyouts do. I still wouldn’t send out this much value, but I can appreciate the thought process more.

I do think keeping Fiala and moving dumba is the right framework, I just don’t think we need to swing for the fences on a LD. But I suppose that’s just differing opinions.

I get the sentiment there, but what are the other options that are "cheaper" to replace him if we were to move him?

Also, I just like the idea of a bona-fide top line D man for 2.3M for 4 years. I mean, think of what MIN could get for him at the deadline of his expiring year if they retained another 50% of the contract for a 26YO top line D man at 1.15M

My cheaper comment was strictly referring to the cost of acquisition, not the cap hit.

I’ve been trying to look around. I don’t have the silver bullet solution, but some loose ideas I’ve had are overpaying a bit to get Dillon and either have Jets retain or a 3rd team retain. Move a few more bucks and sign Zadorov this offseason. Trade for Durzi from LA since they have RD surplus, then move Addison in a package for a LD with similar cap hit. See if you can overpay for Hague. See if you can snag a guy like Weegar, if FL ends up getting Chych.

Idk I’m spitballing a bit, but the point is that I think you can put together a reasonably similar D corps without spending this much.

Yet foligno, and others have been kept because Guerin loves them. When Guerin loves them , and negotiations go flowless, players like dumba, foligno, greenway, etc are always kept by Guerin

There literally hasn't been any reports of dumba seeking a huge pay day. But there has about fiala. Numerous times where Russo said if fiala is still seeking a pay day like he was before, Guerin isn't keeping him. Russo even alluded to Guerin knowing the cap issues but still trading for jost.

Yeah, just being very "Asset rich" as the wild are right now, I feel like spending some of those to get a cheaper cap hit helps more through the down years, but then again, probably a reason I don't work in a NHL front office lol.

Yeah I do too, but not at this cost. To be clear, I agree with you that the D Corps needs to be addressed and I think you’re on the right path. I’ve been tryin to solve this same problem, and I don’t have an answer, but I don’t think it’s Chych. I think we need to keep digging for other options.

No I agree. I’m not opposed to moving some assets, but I just don’t like this particular package. I don’t necessarily want bargain players like Merrill, but I’m not sure big ticket players like Chych are the answer either. We have to somehow find value in the murky middle.

And maybe, the answers are in the prospect pipeline, which would be more than ideal, getting assets at the deadline for some of these players

Yeah IMO there’s a very legitimate possibility Lambos becomes a bona fide top 4 LD. Admittedly I’m more bullish on him than most, but he’s got all the tools.
