I'm not sure how I did on this one. Roast me if you need to; any constructive criticism will help me get better at doing these.

    Rangers fan here.

Obviously it would be great to re-sign Smith, but I think you're very short on his cap hit. Maybe $4m would do it, but on the open market, I wouldn't be surprised if he went for more. Same with Shatty. Maybe just a little bit higher on Zibenajad as well.

I'm strongly opposed to dumping Holden, even for a 2nd rounder. He had 34 points this year and a good+/-. Yes, he's one of their weakest defenders, and Vigneault shouldn't have had him on the ice at the end of Game 2 vs MTL, but still. And he has such a low cap hit. If you're going to win, you can't have Clendining in the starting lineup, even on the bottom pair.

Finally, I think the cap will rise to $75m or so; Nash clearly isn't worth $7.8 and he'd still be hard to fit, but I think we could do better than Marchessault in exchange.

Now that I see how much cap space is left, I guess I could spend more on those 3. Although Clenny is nowhere near as good as NYR Twitter says, I actually liked what I saw out of him, from his fancy stats to his speed. Critics say that he's bad defensively, but I still found that he made far fewer stupid mistakes (proportionately, not just raw numbers) than Holden and Klein did.

Moving onto Holden, the idea was to sell high on him, as a good number of his points came due to luck this year. He's athletic but he's not very smart. And as for Nash, Florida seemed like a good fit b/c they have lots of cap room and need scoring. Who do you think we could get from them? Not Reilly Smith (he's also too expensive) and not Nick Bjugstad (selling low on him would be a very shortsighted move).
