Couture part two

Description
I threw out a trade for Couture in my last ACGM post and was surprised how it wasn't ripped to shreds. Some Sabres fans liked it and thought I gave up too much, and some Sharks fans liked the return. Going to try to find the happy medium between the two.

My original thought is a veteran leader (current SJ captain), playoff experience, can play wing or center, and we can afford him while all the kids are on entry-level or bridge deals. He grew up less than an hour from Buffalo and is a massive Bills fan.

A few other moves added in too.

100+ points in the playoffs = 0 value, and yes he plays on the top PP

I'm sorry but comparing a one-dimensional player to a guy like Couture who has done it all at the highest level is completely absurd. End of story.

Im not comparing them as players im comparing value. All his experience intangibles isnt bringing back a haul especially when his production is in the 40 point range for the 8mill x 5 years left that teams have to absorb. This trade is slightly off, but hes not bringing in 2 1sts and 2 A+ prospects +++, that ship sailed years ago. End of Story.

Based of what Buffalo asked for Eichel from Anaheim, here’s Anaheim’s counter offer to that:

Well you should be ripped for that Couture trade. A fading player 8m X 5 contract. A lot better ways to spend 40m and keep your picks. I doubt if Couture waives anyway. He's retired in California with those other high capped, long term Sharks.

In terms of what he could do for the Sabres I don't see it as a bad fit. He may be "fading," but consider it is on a team that has no clue if it wants to rebuild or contend and I would take the numbers with a grain of salt. I think with his playoff experience and leadership he could be exactly what a young Sabres team needs, much like they acquired with Tuch. Also like Tuch, Couture is essentially a local kid who already supports Buffalo teams. Plus they will have money for several years that they need to spend to because most of their roster will be young players.

The team can't 100% rely on youth so adding a veteran that can play in every situation, will buy into what they're doing, is a local product, has playoff experience, and can play center or wing sounds like a perfect fit for a young group. Granted, I'm biased because I made the post.
