This could be a really good team

Created by: Hii
Team: 2022-23 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 13, 2022
Published: Apr. 13, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is under a few stipulations
1. Brannstromm breaks out in his first full complete year cause he has be pretty good since coming back from the broken hand.

2. Sokolov really breaks out and plays his way with Stutzle and Pinto. It's unlikely but possible cause the big Russian has the tools to become a pretty good middle six forward.

3. Ottawa wins either the Andrei Kuzmenko or Claude Giroux sweepstakes in case Sokolov does not break out.

4. Pinto and Sanderson are fully healty.

5. White is traded, Zaitsev is bough out, and Murray either ends up on LTIR or his contract is mutually terminated.

6. Every key player remains healthy for the season.

7. Brown plays with Joseph and Formenton for the upcoming season if Greig does not play his way onto the team and if he does Brown is traded.

8. Taxi Squad is for players that could potentially but unlikely play their day onto the opening day roster.

Tkachuck - Norris - Batherson is the going to be one of the best lines in the NHL and if Batherson can regain his form then that line could push most of the offense on this team.
Stutzle - Pinto - Sokolov/Kuzmenko/Giroux would be the second line that could help support the offense. Stutzle and Pinto could rotate with draws depending on the matchup and it would be a pretty good two way line but also capable of having each member score 30+ goals. That is is everthing goes right
Formenton - Joseph - Brown would be a great two way line and Brown would be replaced by Greig and Joseph would move over and that line would become a tenacious fiesty third line that could do damage.
Kelly - Kastelic - Watson would be a big heavy almost goon like line where each player maybe gets 10 goals in a good year but is resposible defensively and creats offensive zone chances

Chabot - Brannstrom would be a unworldly pairing if Brannstrom breaks out cause Chabot would be the anchor but they also would both be able to jump up on the ice and Brannstrom would be feeding everyone. Kinda like having a fourth forward on the ice.
Sanderson - Zub Zub will help mentor Sanderson and will also be responsible for the inevitable growing pains of a young defensemen.
Holden - Hamonic Will be a solid pair on defense while also be capable of throwing around their weigh and Hamonic probably resigns at the end of the year for a cheaper contract and grows with the team.

The player is great. He's top of the team in CF%, SCF% and xGF%, he's consistently a positive value defensive player, and he's got skill. He's a good damn player, and he's one of the most purely likable guys they've had in years.

The problem is they paid him like he was going to develop into a 40-50 pt player, and he's just not that. And they've got so much money to dole out the next few seasons that the numbers really can't line up. I really wish they could just shave a mil off that AAV, because it's really gonna suck to say goodbye to Colin White.

Nah, I wish the the Sens could keep him. Like him a lot just is paid ~1.5 million more than he should be.

He had 41pts in his rookie year. But that’s mostly Mark Stone. Without stone he might have got 28-30

I think in the 7-8 range we are looking at Jiricek, Nazar , Kemell. Jiricek might be gone so I’m undecided between Kemell and Nazar. Whichever one will be the next Lucas Raymond is who we should take. I don’t think Sokolov is anywhere close to a top 6 spot lmao

Maybe Lekkerimaki too cause he could be an off the board pick. I doubt that any player in that range ends up playing the following season unless they draft Savoie and get a really lucky draft position

Yep, but for Ottawa the pick probably has to be a RW or a winger that can play both sides. And if Slavkovsky gets to them or they get extremely lucky then if they don't take him I'll be incredibly annoyed.

Nazar is a high scoring C/RW and Kemell is RW. Both right shots

Kemell, Nazar, Slavkosky, and Lekkerimaki would be the top players that I would draft depending on the position. Nazar could be a really nice option cause then he could play with Stutzle and Pinto and then you could have three guys that could play center on that line.

I'll go through it in point form to save everyone from me writing huge paragraphs.

-Timmy is a C. So excited to have Pinto back next year, but the number one thing that needs to happen is that they need to keep Stützle developing down the middle. It's where he's more impactful as a player right now, and long term he stands to be a drastically more important part of the team as a pivot. Jo on the other hand I don't see as a centre at all.

-Brannstrom I don't see sticking around next year. I like him and think he's a good player, but I just don't think there's a spot for him. I think Hamonic is starting top 4 either with 72 or 85. That leaves a 3rd pair job up for grabs and the way I see it, he's not close to pushing Holden on the left side, and one of Thomson or Bernard-Docker (Thomson, let's be real) just makes more sense. Even the 7D spot, they've already got Del Zaster who is fine.

-small point but I'm optimistic that the Jo and Formenton deals come in lower than 3.5. Both have played well, but neither really have the body of work to be pulling that kind of AAV imo.

-love them both but I'd be shocked to see Mads or Sharky break camp with the team. If Murray's done, it's Gus all the way. He's on the 1 way and he's got the NHL experience. Been a down year for him, but he also got very little support in the NHL. Sharky I just don't see pushing for more than a 4RW spot next year. Top 6 would be crazy, it's way too much too soon, and leaves the team in a really bad spot if that's the plan and he's not ready.

-Love the 4th line so much. It's early days for Kasty and Kelly, but that line has the makings of a true identity line. Absolutely adore Kastelic in particular, he's like someone built a perfect 4th line centre in a lab.

Agree with a lot of your points. I’d personally love of that was the fourth line cause it could score a little bit and it won’t give up much but it would be insanely physical and I wouldn’t be surprised if there is more offensive upside for Kastelic as well.
