Sharks Roster for Next Season Taking Shape

Created by: CheechYou
Team: 2022-23 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 14, 2022
Published: Apr. 14, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Changes I'd make? Do what I can to trade Burns, not necessarily because he's the bane of this team or anything like that, but the team needs a change and a new direction. Maybe even buy out Vlasic too, but he's been fine on the bottom pairing and more importantly, his buyout cap hit is a lot better if you do it the following season, which then opens up the space to resign Meier. But buy him out this offseason if you absolutely need the cap space.

Also, on a side note, you could switch up the lines a bit and bump Marchment down to Bordeleau's, but icing an all-rookie 3rd line of Eklund-Bordeleau-Veronneau is just too much fun (although I don't think Veronneau is technically a rookie but I'll consider him one).

I hate trading Dahlen because his underlying numbers are actually really good however, I understand the LW logjam needs to break somewhere. I love Mason Marchment and hope he comes over in UFA. I'd move him to RW though and put him second line while moving Labanc to 3rd.

I'd be surprised if the Sharks draft pick makes the NHL right away unless they win the draft lottery as well.

Pretty on board with this lineup for the most part. The key is getting a coach willing who gives rookies an actual chance and doesn't stifle creativity.

I think Dahlen's numbers were pretty good until midway through the season, it's taken a serious hit as it stands now though, and he's just been too invisible lately. I definitely keep him if his cap hit would be 1.25mil or less but I see a similar situation to what happened with Donato with Dahlen this offseason. There's the LW logjam too as you mentioned and at this point I think Balcers > Dahlen over the course of an 82-game season.

he doesn't have a draft pick on here from 22. Veronneau is a player we signed from Europe today and is 27 but looked awesome in the SHL this year. i see him being a solid 3rd line RW.
Marchment is someone High on l list as well and the fact his dad is an Alumni and still works for the sharks could be a solid leg in, but after this season i see him more 5x5 honestly. and i agree 2 RW is the spot for him.
i would opt to deal Balcers and Simek to arizona and give Dahlen a 2 year deal and place him on the 3rd LW and Eklund as the 2LW to feed Marchment and Couture.
Vlasic Buy-out sucks and the longer we can put it of the better.
Labanc buy out on the other had is really good and i would opt for that for cap space over Vlasic.
Overall I'm on board with this as a whole. still not a legit playoff team but moving in the right direction.

This is a really interesting path the Sharks could pursue, I tried it earlier too and saw it was only like 800-something-K for two years then 1.-something for two years after that. I'd also much rather go that route than buy out Vlasic this season. Not sure they do it though since they're holding him out to 'stay safe' in terms of his shoulder status, which I assume means they want him back for next year. But I'd welcome the surprise, maybe a new GM is more bold (he should be, IMO, if the team wants to compete).

To me the "hold him out" means they don't even want to bother seeing if he rebounds and would rather avoid an injury and evaluate younger players, and they intend deal him or buy him out in the off-season. If that's the truth a re-injury of the shoulder would complicate things.
Just like Wilson being fired was "out for medical reasons" then he steps down in order to allow him to save face.
both look good in the public but if you read between the lines you see the truth.

Devils could find a better/cheaper goalie in FA
