Offseason ideas

Team: 2022-23 Columbus Blue Jackets
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 15, 2022
Published: Apr. 15, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
For Columbus to truly be a contender they need to shore up a few areas;
1; Defensive Zone issues - adding a true top pair defenseman to skate with Werenski, I like Peeke, but he would be better off lower in the line up.

2: adding a top 6 center, I like Jenner but he is a better 3c, Karuly is a 4c, Sillinger will be a good 2c, Roslovic is an inconsistent middle 6c - I’d take a chance on a player like Monahan who could use a change and maybe he gets back to his top line player that he was 4 years ago, Calgary could be willing to dump him and with him being a UFA after the season if he doesn’t work we aren’t stuck with him long term.

3; a back up goalie who is good with playing 20-25 games next season, Elvis has looked his best when he knows the net is his and steps up his game so ride him to 55-62 games next season. This means sending Tarosov back to the AHL so he can play, but if Elvis gets hurt Tarosov is the number 1 in the NHL for that stretch of time.

4; it’ll be very important to get the RFAs signed, Laine, Boqvist, Ect

Columbus signs an RFA aged player who has struggled to catch on else where to give them a shot, kinda like Duclair a few years ago.

So, I like your ideas. They are low risk high reward moves. But the line up has a problem. Danforth has played too well to be benched. Texier that low in the lineup doesn’t make sense for him or for us. I know while unpopular it might make sense to move him or try to move Nyquist.

I know it’s tough, I also put Texier their because that line was really good when they were together earlier this season, as for Danforth he kinda becomes a utility player and plays anywhere in the lineup due to injuries or player struggles.

I would move Nyquist too, I just don’t know where or even for what. Moving him also opens up a bit of cap room too, as well as a place in the lineup for Marchenko or others who are scratched.

With Jarmo I bet he would get a first if he is willing to retain. Realistically probably a 2nd and a good prospect.

With the 1st being the higher of the two picks, this is one of the best offers I've seen for Chychrun. Well done OP. I wonder about Cuelemans. I'd much rather have him than Bean. The base of one of your 2022 1sts and Cuelemans is probably the most intriguing package I've seen.

How do you feel about 2022 first (lowest of Chicago and Columbus) + Cuelemans + something else (for example Foudy)?

Foudy was already in there but Bean was also needed to send back an active contract and make money work better, that’s also partly why the 2nd was included. Bean hasn’t been bad in a more limited role, he just needs to find his stride defensively if he wants to stay after this contract, that being said Bean does put up points and can take over running the PP next season for you.

I also wouldn’t want to move Cuelamens as Columbus has very few RHD in the organization currently, he is one of 3 who have NHL level potential Peeke and Boqvist being the others, so the only way I’d add him is if Columbus was able to get Juricik or Nemec in the draft and as we are moving the earlier 1st that probably isn’t possible at 12.
