why would we do Vegas a favour and give them our 2nd highest scoring even strength player on a team friendly deal retained while taking a cap dump back and a 3C

The whole thing is a bad idea but the VGK trade makes no sense

This team may contend for a playoff spot, but they surely aren't a cup contender.

I feel like this is the type of mindset the Canucks have had for years now, trying to win now without having the young assets to ensure future grow/success, and it hasn't worked out well...

then won't that mean they need to rebuild. I'd rather have Nucks pick a side to fully rebuild with core of young players and character builders or fully load

It's difficult to fully load when you don't have assets that can step right in and make a difference or the cap space/picks to attain those assets.

Personally, I think the Canucks are on the verge of missing their opportunity to compete with Hughes and Petterrson in their primes for the following reasons:

- Cap space. They are stuck with OEL contract for the next 5 years, Myers for 2.
- They have one of the worst prospect pools in the league.
-They are short a 2nd in this years draft.
- Their 1st in this years draft is mid round,
- Any picks they do make that aren't top 10 are probably going to take 3-4 years to be everyday effective NHL players, probably an additional 2-3 years to hit their primes.

I do think this team will improve with the new management/coach, they have already shown they are better with Bruce, but I think long term this team is going to be stuck in mediocracy as they wont have the cap space or high end ECL draft picks to push them into contender status. They may be a playoff team, but unless they hit some major home runs in the next drafts, or absolutely fleece a few teams to rid some cap space I don't seem them being close to contenders.

Agreed, This calls for a Rebuild and more focus on Drafting and Scouting. Senators took a full rebuild and in a short span have a lot of depth waiting to play with tons of cap space
