TBL offseason moves

Initial Creation Date: Apr. 24, 2022
Published: Apr. 24, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I realize trading Serg is unlikely, just seeing how the team could look if he was moved. Not sure on the value either, so if adds/changes need to be made that's fine.

Why spend those assets for 1 year of a minimal upgrade over BOGO on Soucy?

I personally doubt the devils do this. Their decisions are typically analytics driven and Serg’s are…not good

It would also likely give Tampa a reasonably high 1st round pick and a solid middle 6 F prospect, all while alleviating some cap issues for the summer of '23. It's going to be very, very difficult to keep all 4 of Serg, Cirelli, Cernak, and Colton after next season, and Serg is likely to want more than the others. As tough of a loss as he would be, he is still likely the most expendable and would bring back the best value in a return.

Serg would be a large upgrade for them. The trade may need some tweaks, but to say
"analytics" as why N.J. wouldn't be interested, very doubtful.

Soucy would be a cheaper version of Rutta, he's likely worth at least a 2nd/3rd without retention, which Tampa can't make work in thks scenario, hence the added 4th. There ate other guys to target, or Tampa could downgrade at F(for example go after someone like Blackwell instead of Motte in free agency), which could then free up enough cap in this model to keep Rutta in the 2-2.5 range. Soucy or Schenn would be my targets if Rutta couldn't be kept, but neither will be moved for peanuts.

Why? They’re a team that clearly makes decisions that line up with public analytics models, in general. Sergachev has shown poorly in those models. Therefore, it’s reasonable to assume the devils wouldn’t likely see him as a “large upgrade” like you do.

That’s not to say they wouldn’t be interested. But I doubt they would consider moving significant assets

Looking at their underlying numbers, he’s not even an upgrade over Graves. So you would need some confidence that he’s better than his numbers (maybe) and that it’s worth pick 6 and a cheap good bottom 6 player

Pass at that cost use Bogo And call up Perbix or Schmidt if bodies are needed

Schmidt won't be close to ready next year, it will be Perbix and then Thompson most likely. Since there's basically zero chance Tampa's right side stays healthy next season, Perbix will get his chance most likely.

Well then they won't be getting him, as it will take significant assets to acquire him.

That’s fine then. Was just explaining why I personally think the devils wouldn’t be interested. I don’t work for them though so who knows.

Okay, and that's fine. Many Devils fans on here and elsewhere have expressed considerable interest, should Serg be available, so I have included them as a possible destination. It will take an overpay I'm sure, but at least a 1st+either higher level prospect/younger roster player would need to be coming back for Tampa to show interest. No team is getting him offering less than high value pieces.
