Bad trade for the Wild. LW is already their strongest position. JVR would (probably) end up being a 1 yr rental and is only a slight upgrade over what they have.

Overpaid Hyman and Brown pretty badly. Alzner won't take so little, Polak just had a major injury and you are giving him a 50% raise, and Brodin deal isn't getting done without more pieces.

There is no way Hyman and Brown accept less than this, in fact I wouldnt be surprised if they got more. Polak made 2.25 mil this year, played well, a modest 500000 increase for one year as a reward is not crazy. Added a piece to JVR for Brodin, imo you could swap in any b-c level prospect and pick, the basis of the deal would still be JVR for Brodin.

They're both RFA's, they don't get a choice in contract negotiations. I'm surprised how little Leaf fans know about hockey thinking that one season means a career norm.

So Polak is going back up to $2.75M when he went from $2.75M to $2.25M and no one else was looking to sign him for longer, again, look at what happened. Polak is a 3rd pair d-man, not a first pair d-man. So for 4 years of Brodin you get 1 year of JVR, good trade for the Leafs, not fair for the Wild. Need a defensive prospect to go the other way.

Those aren't bad bridge deals, in the $2m range is 3rd line pay. I would try and get a 3rd year on the Hyman contract.
