The Core Is Gone

Created by: Bbpagewolf
Team: 2022-23 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: May 4, 2022
Published: May 4, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I know the Penguins technically have the cap to sign at least a couple of Letang, Malkin, Rakell, and Rust, but I honestly don’t see any of those guys wanting to come back. Rust maybe, but I think a lot of these guys will want fresh starts elsewhere.

I understand wanting to change to up players but gee signing 30 year old Smith to five years and 29 year Trochek to six years, seems like the Pens are back on the same aging situation.

Let’s be real though, if they still see themselves as a Stanley Cup contender despite the loses, this is probably the most likely route they take out of stubbornness. As long as they have Sidney Crosby, they probably remain stubborn as Crosby will not accept a rebuild as long as he’s around.
