Embrace the Tank

Description
Year 1 off-season for the Hawks rebuild.

Forwards
I don’t think 19 is moved before the start of the season. It’s gonna be hard to trade him with his cap hit even with 50% retained. My guess is that if 19 does get moved it’ll be mid season. Either way I do think it’s probably his last year in a Hawks sweater.

There’s not a ton Davidson can really do with this forward group. I do think that Strome gets resigned. Not sure exactly what his contract looks like term and AAV wise but he’s definitely our best C and I wouldn’t move him unless we got a decent haul for him.

I think a lot of the young guys will get shots in the bottom 6 rotating through like the past couple years. This is definitely not a set FWD group and I would expect a bunch of movement throughout the year. Hawks really need to see growth from Dach, Reichel, and Kurashev this year.

Defense
This may be the worst D-core in the NHL. I could see Davidson going out and bringing in an established D-man. Although I think Davidson doesn’t want to spend a lot on term and AAV so that will limit options. No matter what at least 1-2 of the younger D-men need to take a significant step.

Goalies
Hawks don’t really have a long term plan in net. I think Lankinen gets another shot. I could see Soderblom getting some action but I think he still needs more time in the minors. I think Davidson does bring in a veteran as well for depth. Doesn’t necessarily need to be Wedgewood, but a guy like that. Don’t think Delia is back

Hawks need to tank this year. Need to be one of the top 6-7 worst teams in the league at least. Play the young kids and try to establish a positive culture that teams like the Senators, Red Wings, and Kings have done in recent years

Additional Details:
AZ can afford to use a 2nd round pick to Acquire Kubalik’s RFA Rights. I could see it being a 3rd though, his value is definitely lower after this season. Either way I think Davidson moves on from Kubalik
ARI
  1. Kubalik, Dominik [RFA Rights]
2.
CHI
  1. Lehkonen, Artturi [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Look for Hawks to try take advantage of cap strapped teams that can’t afford certain players. I don’t think there’s a ton of moves at forward to be made, but I do think Davidson will try to target a player like Lehkonen who can play in your top 9 in all situations and help make the game easier for some younger players. Not exactly sure how the value works out but I could see that Hawks making a trade somewhat similar to this

I like your idea of getting Lehkonen but he is one of the Avs priorities this summer

Would be a good LH option, a guy like that would definitely help.

Can’t see a scenario where the Avs move on from Lehkonen, especially at a $3.3M price tag and with that return.

Idea is that hopefully Avs not end being able to afford Lehkonen as a luxury anymore and are forced to deal him. I could definitely see the price being higher on both ends though. Wonder how much he ends up getting and how long

Sure but the Avs would more readily move someone like Compher before using Lehkonen as a cap dump. I don’t think they need to move either though unless they go big game hunting for a second line guy. Which seems unlikely

If you could actually read it was more about an example of a player like Lehkkonen or a situation similar. I’m not banking on anything. Not shocked though that’s the problem about this forum. Opposing fans just wanna decline and dunk on something that wasn’t even intended for them in the first place. A lot easier than trying to have an actual productive thought for once isn’t it?

The implication on this forum is that opposing team’s fans respond to trade proposals. So it’s quite literally intended for Avs fans in the first place.

I get what you’re doing and the trade you’re trying to make, but there’s no chance this player is on the chopping block because of the salary cap unless it’s a gross overpayment.
