22-23 Ducks

Created by: tcrowell01
Team: 2022-23 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: May 18, 2022
Published: May 18, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trade with Toronto:
Gibson doesn’t fit the rebuild and his value is great. With rumours of Campbell possibly not returning and Nylander possibly on the outs, this trade just makes sense for both sides as Sandin is a young NHL ready defenceman and Nylander is a proven young player.

I fixed it lol I hadn’t realized I had the 1st still in there. I know Toronto isn’t going to trade Nylander just to trade him, same with Sandin, but I explained a bit more in the description smile

Gibson is under contract for five more seasons, and Anaheim should be a contender by the third, so your idea that he "doesn't fit the rebuild" makes no sense. Trading Gibson for Nylander solves one problem for Anaheim in the intermediate term but creates an equal problem longer term when Nylander's contract expires just when Anaheim's window to compete will be opening. Solving the goalie question for five years has an intangible value that's hard to quantify. No, thanks.

Gibson’s numbers over the last three years are not as good as they were prior, and with Dostal on the uprise, why not get him some NHL time now so he can hopefully be ready to go by the time this team is ready to compete. That’s kind of how I was looking at it, with Gibson having great value currently, and Dostal up and coming, I should have reworded it a bit better - Gibson does fit the rebuild, but Dostal fits it better in my opinion smile

Remember when everyone thought that Spencer Knight was going to replace that $10 million cap dump Sergei Bobrovsky?

Lol yup you have a point there! I just hate that Dostal isn’t getting a lot of opportunities at the NHL level, I hope that can change whether it’s with or without Gibson in the organization
