They're keeping Sammy. If you're trading VV and 2nd, go after someone better than Quick. Would rather they just sign Husso or Kuemper and not lose any assets.

Caps definitely aren't going anywhere with Johan Larsson as their 2C lol McMichael is 2C is ready but need to sign a big fish like Gaudreau or Forsberg with Backy money off the books.

Caps aren't trading their 1st for Marino.

LA isn't dealing Jonathan Quick so they pass.

Braden Holtby gets closer to $2,500,000 to $3,000,000 x 2-3 years.

No way Pittsburgh trades Marino for that offer, not even close.

-Sammy wasn’t very good but as a former first rd pick, late blossom of G's and sometimes randomness of goalies, a team will probably take a chance on him for a 2nd or 3rd. Quick finally had a good gsax once the kings had a lot more well performing defense, the defense here is setup well and some great defensive fwds in Washington, Lav's system isn’t perfect but it does limit high danger well
-I think McMichael can be the 2c next yr, he is way better than his general public perception. I was focused on getting the 12 starters penciled in next yr more than actually making lines. I think they need another guy for the top 6 but a big fish just isn’t practical right now for Washington, I think if they could get Giroux or malkin in for around 6M that would be interesting on shorter term deals.
-Caps need another defenseman in my opinion, if marino is any bit available that becomes very interesting. Many fanbases get very concerned about trading a first but what’s the chances your first is better than marino (who the team has control of for a while under a pretty good contract). Yes I am aware clark and eller are added in the deal.

Holtby was bought of a contract a yr ago and went to IR for part of this season. Neither of those things will help on a new contract. The chances they trade quick are low, I don’t know how LAK passes up an offer like that when they locked in petersen who was expected to be the starter along with leaving quick exposed via expansion. Quick wasn’t phenomenal in most goalie analytics in previous yrs even though he was fantastic this season, I think his performance in reality goes somewhere between the two. It is hard to say how the current exec staff feels about marino in Pittsburgh, I know he brings a solid amount of his value on defense but they get a 1st, a player who is retained to a point of a solid add, and a former 2nd rd prospect.

Sammy is thiiiiis close to breaking out. Trading him now for nothing would be dumb.

Quick did have a good season but he had a handful of terrible seasons before that. No reason to take a chance on a 36yo on a 1 year deal for that much. Go after Husso for free and cheaper AAV.

I like Marino but don't think PIT will move him to the Caps. Jensen is a very good 2RHD so no need to add any dmen. We are set back there.

Husso is likely a 5x5 goalie in FA, maybe he’s good next yr but is he good for all 5 seasons (possibly not). Many think of FAs as free but they have a high opportunity cost as you are generally paying hefty amounts for them and a lot of term making them hard "outs" if needed. Having a one yr option in net is sometimes a better thing as goalie is the most random position in the NHL. Washington needs goaltending help and you are basically trading in the bad tandem from last season for quick who has done well throughout his career in low fenwick against seasons. Jensen could definitely be a good 2RD (he is a very good player) but Marino would certainly help this roster whether it is on pair 2 or pair 3. Nothing wrong with having 3 very good pairings on defense in the NHL and marino would allow Washington to balance matchups and ice time better. PIT will move him where they get the best offer, teams trade within divisions often and it is not like this is a superstar player.

I don't think Husso would cost that much. Closer to $4M, maybe even $3.5M. Much rather take that for a handful of years that cost you nothing than 1 year for a 36yo who had a decent year for a 2nd and young 1B goalie. If you're going vet on 1 year deal get Varly.

I'm down to add Marino, just not for a 1st. If the Caps move their 1st they need to use for a need. Defense is not a need at all. A high end, young top 6 player is the biggest need.

I changed my vision for this team a lot, Im obv not going to be in agreement with everything you said but I felt this is a team that desperately needs to hold draft capital at this point or even acquire some in certain scenarios.
