It's not a that a team wouldn't, it's that a trade for Nylander would come with no guarantee of an extension. If Van trades Miller, there will almost certainly be an extension in place. If a team trades for Nylander now, they can't even extend him until the year after, which means that a chance at an extension is not guaranteed and he can just walk.

And? You have 2 seasons to court Nylander and if he wants to leave you move him for a major haul or make a hockey trade. This mindset on this site that all leaf players are worthless because they are going to leave in 2 years or whatever is absolutely ridiculous

I never said he was worthless. And teams interested in Nylander aren't going to want to take that chance. NHL GM's are going to pay more for the guy that comes with a multiyear extension than the guy that doesn't.

Yup, because all teams are going to screw over the leafs because they can and it's the rules that the leafs have to give away their players. Only on this site do point a game players in their prime amount to scraps because they wear a blue and white jersey with a leaf on it. No one will pay a good price because reason that don't apply to any other franchise.

The anti leaf bias is plane and simple my friend. Nylander is worth a bottom 6 player and a B prospect because he's going to leave in 2 years so no one wants him. Definitely fair and insightful

Did I ever say that was his value? I don't care what team he's on jfc. And Mercer is more than a "B prospect." He's a former mid first round pick who put up 42 points in his age 20 rookie season on a **** Devils team and is under control for the better part of the next decade.

This trade above is Nylander for a couple of middle 6 players. And he's worth only this because he's going to leave. Nylander put up 61 in his 20 year old season. Playing with 2 other rookies on the 3rd line in TO. But every 40 point winger is easily going to score more in TO because everyone gets points off Matthews. Even when they don't play with him much.

And I never commented on the trade above, I joined the conversation to explain to you the value differences between Miller and Nylander. But if you want me to, maybe if you use the thing between your ears, you'll realize that hey, maybe Mercer has a chance to grow and develop as he gets older and be more than just a "40 point winger" as you put it. You think Mercer is not going to grow and develop and stay as a 40 point guy his entire career? Stop being dense.

I don't think that Mercer looks decent but Nylander was more at his age and is a point a game player in the NHL at 26. He's done more than Miller had at his age.
