Capitals get a number one goalie and add a veteran defender to their core. Capitals also bring in some speed and playmaking with Palat. McMichael gets an everyday opportunity.

Let me know your thoughts on what Washington could do with Backy possibly on LTIR

Say if Backstrom goes on LTIR, they have 2 options I can think of. they sign Malkin or Trochek to take his place. Alternatively I posted another trade the Caps could explore is getting JT Miller from the Canucks for Sheary assuming if Lapierre and McMichael are unavailable, Iorio for our RD and a 2nd. If we retain salary for Miller, it becomes a 1st

If the Caps could get Miller with Sheary being the main piece going the other way, I would potentially pee myself laughing. Just al little tinkle, not a full bladder, but still.

As a Caps fan, this looks pretty solid. Only a few things I would adjust:

1) Gibson probably won't go for that low (unfortunately). Probably change the 2nd to a 1st. Or add a B prospect (Leason potentially). But great trade would be awesome for the Caps.
2) Eller needs to go. He had his worst year this year and if Backy is done, Caps need a true 2C (which McMichael is not). CMC goes to 3C, Eller traded, UFA brought in for 2C
3) Hags is either bought out or retires - that gives you ~4.5mil + Eller contract = ~6mil to sign a 2C. Might be tough

Other than that, I like the start!

If the Caps added a talent like Forsberg or even Palat/Burakovsky then we can get away with McMichael at 2c I think. Not ideal, but it could work
