Description
If you don't already know, Holland's contract ends after the 17-18 season. This it good! However, he will do all he possibly can to make the playoffs, putting the Wings a step back in the quest to rebuild. I originally thought this would be bad but think about it! Whenever Kenny has tried to do something, he has failed. Maybe I'm being a little harsh but by using this theory we can conclude that the Wings will have a worse season than this one.

There's always a flip side to sucking: High draft picks. The 17-18 season is a perfect time to suck because of the second Svechnikov brother! Svechnikov has expressed interest in playing for the Wings to play on a line with his brother. He is projected to be the 2nd pick behind Dahlin. There's a whole year until that draft so it's all rough speculation but that's what it seems to be. If the Wings suck enough, they can pick the second Svechnikov brother as the first step in a rebuild.

Management:

After Ken Holland is done this upcoming season, Detroit gives Draper interim management job for 2018-2019 season. Why you might ask? This is because Steve Yzerman's contract with the Lightning ends after the 2018-2019 season. You see where I'm going with this! Detroit signs Yzerman and gets their sought after alumni.

Explanation for trades:

The trades are real rough. I know that so much more can happen between now and the 2018-2019 season but the main point of this post in the second Svechnikov brother. I think it's at least realistic.

Helm contract is expensive so we dump that and give a 2017 3rd to Vegas in compensation.

Green goes to Oilers at 2017-2018 Trade Deadline for 2018 1st round pick. Detroit does this to trade up in the draft if necessary. Some people doubt Green's worth but I think he will be as good as ever in his third season in Detroit.

Explanation for Signings / Resignings:

Ott comes back. Detroit keeps Sheahan. Larkin proves he is not a prodigy, resulting in a modest contract. Mrazek improves. Bert plays bigger role in Detroit on grind line. Kenny signs Kulikov in an attempt to win the Cup. All very rough speculation, but somewhat realistic.

Explanation for Draft choices:

Detroit picks Valimaki in 2017 draft. BTW, Detroit got shafted in the lottery. Detroit picks Svechnikov 2nd overall. I don't know how they get there; either by genuinely sucking or by trading up. Detroit picks Wise with 26th pick in 2018 draft. I estimated this is how far the Oilers will make it into the playoffs next year.

It's all just speculation, estimation and optimism, but I like to hope! Let me know thoughts down below please!

Always fun to speculate! Although, in my opinion, I'd rather have Dahlin and maybe Merkley over Svech's brother; especially if the board falls this year in a way that we end up taking a BPA forward like Glass or Necas. Usually in a vacuum you'd take the projected top 2 defenseman over the projected top line winger. Definitely would be happy with any of the three!

I absolutely Love this. If there's anyway we could land baby Svech I think Wings should swing for the fences.
