If he was committed to the team, wouldn’t he have already signed an extension?

I think to get tkachuk for 8 years, it would have to be an offer he couldn’t refuse. Given that he could almost certainly make more than this by taking arb, and going UFA, I can’t see him signing that. Flames missed their chance to get him locked up.
