You make it sound so easy. Yep I think Reeves could be moved...but the Rangers don't save his 1.75m cap hit...after all they have to find a replacement which cost cap $$.

And Nemeth has a 8 team no trade list. He just can't be traded with teams with excessive cap (his no trade list). So many teams are near the cap, they don't a 3.6m Dman who is 6th Dman at best.

Seriously though...it's not easy- just not impossible. Drury will certainly have to earn his $- and this is where he will start to show his worth (or lack of) as an exec.
Nemeth wont be an easy move...but there has to be at least 1 team of 24 that will take an asset along with him...Drury's job to find.

One really serious problem the Rangers have (or any strapped team) has is in a flat cap league there are many more "sellers of cap dumps" compared to the limited number of "willing buyers"

But you are absolutely correct i,t is a GMs to make it work. And if they can't make it work via a trade, trying to find some 900,000 bargains that can play above their contracts.

Exactly why players like Hunt and Brozinski…and even (ahem) Hajek are actually commodities- cost bottom $…but can fill out a roster without hurting the team (of course Hajek in a sheltered role!). Players on ELC- same thing….but you do have the bonus consideration with them
