Florida can't afford J. T Miller long term, And they're not giving that up for a one year rental. The only way Florida can afford Miller is if they let Huberdeau walk.

I'm not entirely sure they couldn't with Reinhart moving the other way.

Reinhart makes $6,500,000 and Miller minimally will get $7,500,000 x 7 years on his next deal. So basically $1,000,000 more possibly even $2,000,000 more long term.

It's not the same return that people fall back on (pick, good player and prospect again and again) but it's still good. Reinhart fits the Rutherford window and Duclair can certainly score goals.

On the other hand, it frees up almost 10m in cap that Florida needs to bring back Giroux and could maybe also bring back Marchment as well now.

Yes but in a year's time. They could look at their options then given their window is now. This frees up almost 10m to bring back Giroux and others.

These trades are what Jim Benning would make, not acquiring young assets and trying to remain competitive. Trading Miller should look like getting younger pieces not more older players that will price themselves out of team-friendly contracts

You mean a 26 year old who scores and plays a great overall game? And another who is a known goal scorer? It doesn't have to be just a player with potential and picks.

No doubt they’re great players, but Reinhart especially will price himself out and be worth what Miller’s extension will be , so it seems like it’s kicking the can down the road you know?

I do but I also think that's a good problem to have. Myers and Pearson expire in two years time.
