Big Val

Team: 2022-23 Washington Capitals
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 16, 2022
Published: Jun. 16, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Gibson Trade: I know his agent came out and said he has no interest in leaving Anaheim but if he *were* to be moved, I can't imagine he can get much more than the 20th overall pick this year, a second next year, a younger, VERY raw goalie who still has upside and our 2018 first round pick AA especially considering Gibson has had negative goals saved above expected in each of the past three seasons.

Eller Trade: Could be to anywhere, his contract expires at the end of the 22-23 season and think its time for CMc to get full-time pivot duties even with Backstrom on the shelf (for God knows how long)

Sheary Trade: Again, could be anywhere but he's a veteran, cheap winger who has had 15+ goals in the past two seasons and has won 2 cups. I'm sure there is a playoff team out there willing to pay for his services, especially since he's shown he can play on a line with top players (Sid, Ovi, etc.)

Forsberg Signing: Do I think this will actually happen? No but maybe in my dreams.

Nichushkin Signing: Think this actually can happen. Avs have some tough decisions salary wise coming up with Kadri hitting UFA, big Val, Kuemper, and the MacKinnon contract extension looming. Nichushkin is an absolute BEAST in both zones and the Russian connection doesn't hurt here. Brian McLellan loves big, physical fast players so this is a guy I'm sure he's looking at. (along with the other 31 teams).

Who knows if/when Backstrom does come back but if he were to be activated from LTIR for Round 1 (if this team makes the playoffs), this is a team that would be a tough out. I think?

Sabres decline imo
I think we’d have mild interest at best
Bc of that, i doubt we’d pay a 3rd

Its been rumored for months that Nichushkin will be the Avs TOP priority to re-sign this offseason. The validity of these reports will become more apparent when the Avs season is over, but as an Avs fan, it feels highly unlikely that the Avs will move on from him. Also if the Avs can lock him up at $5.5m AAV while having a projected $26m in cap space, it happens 100/100 times.

Take out either Alexeyev or the first from the Gibson trade. Would rather keep sheary and sign/trade for someone who can play c rather than overpay forsberg after an outlier contract year and have protas and mcmichael at 2/3c
