Centers are more valuable than defenseman, and the difference between Lundkvist and Lapierre in talent or potential (if there is one at all) doesn't make up for that positional gap. Lundkvist will also want NHL minutes next year which at RD the caps can't really give him. I doubt the caps trade for Lundkvist only to turn around and use him to trade for a star veteran, so this also gets rid of one of the caps' 3 premium futures to use for a bigger trade. For a lateral prospect swap like this to happen, there needs to be an actual reason to do so. Absolutely no chance for this trade, and even less for the horrendous Lundkvist + Georgiev for McMichael version I saw recently
