Nylander has 2 yrs left on his deal. How is he a pending UFA? That's like saying McDavid is a pending UFA, because he is at the end of his current deal... in 4 years.

I never said pending, but he will be in two years, and the Hawks won't be competitive by then. They're not gonna want to overpay a 28 year old winger on the open market. His only value would be to flip him at the deadline.

let me get this straight.... You get rid of Mrazek and Holl, two guys who everyone wants out of Toronto for their cap hits and horrible play.... so essentially you're trading Nylander and a 1st for Patrick freaking Kane PLUS multiple draft picks?

Nylander certainly holds value, but that value isn't to CHI. For us it would be about moving him for futures and picks at the TDL, something which you would expect fetches a good return however, it just slows what the franchise is looking to achieve now and thats rebuild starting from this draft. If Kane were to be moved, the preference would be for a prospect and 1st for 50% retained Kane.

So lets say something like...

Robertson + Hirvonen + #1 TOR 2022 for Kane at 50% retained

That would be more valuable than Nylander + Holl + Mrazek +#1 2022 TOR for Kane at 50% retained a couple later round picks

The value isn't the issue, Nylander is worth more than Kane ordinarily so with the dumps and 1st its no problem but its about where we are as a franchise. Nylander would likely depart in 2 years unless we were to trade him but what that does, is take away time from guys we can actually develop who we feel could be here long term while allowing us to be bad and get better picks in the draft while we rebuild.
