Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
- D pairs can be whatever meshes well, I just really like these pairs chemistry wise if Rielly can handle playing RD, which he has done before. Gio would be an amazing partner for him
- Myers is very likely to be bought out, if not just sign a different 7D for under 1 mil (Irwin, Kempny, Nuttivaara)
- White could be bought out, but if not then a different 4C could be signed/traded for who makes 1.5 or less. I really like the fit of White on that line and I believe he could be bought out, but if not it’s not the end of the world
- Give Robertson a full time spot and let the 4RW spot go to either Anderson or Holmberg, or whoever may surprise from the AHL
- Goalies are a gamble but both make little money and are coming off good seasons in ~20 games each. One of these two goalies should be at worst tandem level goalies, if not both. If one is struggling, you have 3 solid options (maybe even 4) in the AHL. Watch for Dryden McKay to make a push for a spot in training camp, very talented
- Love the Marchment fit in Toronto

Trades
1.
TOR
  1. 2023 7th round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
Any team looking for a goalie.

The 2023 7th becomes a 2023 4th if Mrazek wins 20 or more games
MTL
  1. Abruzzese, Nick
  2. Mrázek, Petr
Additional Details:
I wanted to buy out Mrazek but the cap could hurt big time over the long term.
Mrazek struggled a lot this year but is talented enough to bounce back and still be worth his contract. Still considering that, Mrazek won’t be easy to dump, and it comes at the cost of Abbruzzese. Abbruzzese is a very talented forward who, if all goes well, could be a legit impact player in today’s NHL. Hurts to see him go knowing what he can be, but it saves a lot of money over the next 4 years
2.
TOR
  1. 2022 5th round pick (STL)
  2. 2023 5th round pick (STL)
Additional Details:
St Louis takes a gamble on Kase who could be a great pickup if healthy, only costing 2 depth picks in case it doesn’t pan out. If Kase scores 20 goals, the 2023 5th upgrades to a 3rd, but this deal is a steal for St Louis if they get a 3rd and 5th for a 20+ goal scorer on a cheap contract, so if this condition goes through St Louis is still the winner

2023 5th becomes a 2023 3rd if Kase scores 20+ goals
STL
  1. Kase, Ondrej [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Solid middle 6 forward when healthy. Sadly, due to health concerns, value isn’t as high as someone of his level would be, but you still get back a couple depth picks, one of which moves up if Kase does find success in St Louis.

With St Louis likely to lose at least 1 or 2 top 9 forwards due to cap and needing to solve other issues in the lineup, Kase would receive likely a cheap 1 year contract and could pay off greatly for them

Leafs move on from him because he doesn’t fit the needs in the top 9, as Motte fits better on that checking line
3.
TOR
  1. 2022 5th round pick (CBJ)
NJD

    4.
    TOR
      Any team(s)
      MTL
      1. Holl, Justin
      2. Kerfoot, Alexander
      Additional Details:
      Traded to highest bidders.
Kerfoot is a versatile middle 6er who I would love to keep, but there’s no room on the 4th line, he shouldn’t be on the checking line based on how Keefe likes to deploy it, and he isn’t better than Marchment or Kerfoot. Plenty of teams with different systems could use a Kerfoot. I’d expect the return to be equivalent to that of a late 1st/early 2nd, considering his production this year which was almost all at 5v5 + his PK and impressive defence. Again, sucks to see him go, but he just doesn’t have a fit. Leafs could retain some salary based on what I have with this roster here to maximize his return (1 mil or so)
Holl is a solid defenceman, he gets way too much hate. At his best he’s a legit second pair d man, he just makes dumb mistakes every once in a while. But generally he is solid. Traded because there is no point in wasting an asset like him to be a healthy scratch most of the time, as he is not better than any of the d men in the lineup below, especially once Lily and Sandin develop that extra step. Based on the market, I’d expect a late 2nd to be the return
      5.
      TOR
      MTL
      1. Duszak, Joseph [RFA Rights]
      Additional Details:
Traded for highest value (likely pick or two). Whatever team wants to gamble on the talented OFD who lit up the AHL

Actually for the blues the only top 9 they could lose is Perron and they'll probably sign him and even if they don't they have Jake Neighbours who will go into the top 9 so the team doesn't have any place for a player like Kase, nothing against the guy tho

I could easily see them moving another one or even two to fix the defence problems they have rn. Neighbours I was thinking could take the role but idk they want to bank on him fully yet. If Neighbours does make it, then Kase is a really good 4th liner, and the price to get Kase here is extremely cheap anyways. 2 5th round picks combined has under a 40 percent chance of giving you an NHL player mathematically. Very low price, good gamble

As a Habs fan I love the idea on a Leafs-Habs Mrazek trade. Price is possibly not gonna play next year and we might entertain trading Allen as well, so acquiring an overpaid goalie like Mrazek for futures is very enticing.

I could see it fs. Abbruzzese would also be a very good fit. The talent he has could actually be given a proper role, or at least assuming they move on from a few guys this summer like Dvorak, Hoffman, Drouin, etc
