Expect Simple Moves This Summer
Team: 2022-23 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 29, 2022
Published: Jun. 29, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description This is roughly the type of off-season I expect from NJD:
1. Adding a goalie
2. Adding a defensive 3rd pair dman
3. Adding a couple heavies up front
I don't really expect DeBrincat, Gaudreau, Pastrnak, Forsberg, Meier, Guentzel, Caufield, Fiala, Bertuzzi, Boeser, Miller, etc unless they come cheaply.
The draft pick will be reassigned after camp: Wright (juniors), Slafkovsky (AHL), Nemec (AHL), Cooley (NCAA)...whomever we pick, not counting them for day one lineup.
Position battles:
3LW: Tatar, Boqvist, Foote
3C: Mercer, Boqvist, Thompson
3LD: Bahl, Smith, Okhotiuk
G: Campbell, Blackwood

Leafs decline, we don't need Mango back and were adding cap when we need to shed it with his contract

Tom Wilson isn't waiving for the NJD, And he's out until sometime late February to early March anyways.

Wilson's not available (especially in-division), but even if he was that package wouldn't be nearly enough.

Yeah, I stretched on that one.
I picked Wilson since he and Hughes get along.
Couldn’t think of who would be next step down.

Greenway to clear cap for Minnesota maybe? unlikely but it's a step down

How about we make a Blackwood to leafs trade?
Devils GM has said he wants to bring in a goalie to “compete with” Blackwood, not replace him. So odds are unlikely that he gets dealt this year.
But if they did, I imagine the ask would be Campbell + filling one of our other needs (big physical winger who can play in front of net or in corners; or big mobile defensive dman).

I don’t see him playing top-6 on a speed/possession team.
Maybe Crouse if he had more nasty. Or Kunin if he was one step quicker.

Would take a gross overpay to get Wilson and that isn't it. He would be great with Hughes tho.
