Description

I'm hoping the purpose of McDonagh is for either he or Ekholm to play on their off hand with Josi and give him a really reliable counterpart. Ekholm had a weak season last year, so maybe starting him with Josi can get him going again. Maybe you combine Ekholm/McD for a shutdown 2nd pair sometimes and see if that works. Then either Fabbro/Carrier gets to play sheltered 3rd pair minutes.

Assuming this is how it shakes out, we have $5.5M to go get another forward. I feel like, based on Poile's comments, its more likely that they try to trade for an RFA that is 23-25 than go sign a 27-30 year old. Thinking someone like Puljujarvi, Necas, Boeser in no particular order.

what about tolvanen, fabbro, and 1st 2022 for puljujarvi and savoie (or other non top 3 oilers prospect instead). seems like puljujarvis almost certainly gone so that doesn't seem like a bad return given you get 2 roster players with somewhat high ceilings

I don't hate this. I could see us dealing Fabbro/Carrier now that we have McDonagh. And I think dealing the 1st for Savoie is fair. I don't think they are ready to give up on Tolvanen yet though. And Fabbro is a guy they really like long term. But it sounds like yall WANT to get rid of Puljujarvi. So I don't think you get this good of a deal.
