Why would Ottawa do that, they have the cap space to get equivalent value guys from FA, and keep the pick.

I doubt Philly moves their pick either, but I can at least understand that one if their trying to retool. Also think it's way more likely they'll try to dump worse contracts then JVR

For OTT, I can understand what you are saying. However, they would get 2 needs (winger for Stutzle and a future top 4 RD). I think they could still get a solid UFA.

For PHI, JVR is really their worst contract with Laughton and Lindblom.

JVR is definitely not their worst contract, only 1 year left and still a 20+ goal scorer they can easily flip him at the deadline with retained salary. Those 2 first plus a B level player does not get you the 5OA, plus philly already said they would only trade their 5OA for a young impact player.

Its their worst contract for next year. I agree with you that if PHI retool this year and don’t necessarly want to win, it’s no that bas of a contract.

Value Wise for the PHI trade, it is more than enough considering the value pick chart of The Athletic.

Prospects available > a chart that is used as a basis with no actual judgment of depth in any sport or its draft

Honestly, I get trading back, but they don’t trade back unless they can get a piece similar to that of which they plan on drafting. Example, Barron, not as good as Jiricek but fits that spot. They don’t need another 2-way centre when they have Coots, Hayes, and Laughton when needed.

They can just trade JVR with retained salary and still be competitive next year, and their worst contract next year is still Risto and Hayes.

Ott already has 2 future RD, Thompson and jbd, Anderson's is not woth a first round pick, he is one of the most overrated players in the nhl
