Description
If both Price and Byron play in this scenario; we end up with 1.85M cap space, and two players over the 23-man roster limit, assuming there are no taxi squads going forward. No guarantee that Guhle or Slaf would stick on the big club right away though, either I suppose.

Those I'd most like to see moved to make space would be Drouin, Dadonov, or Savard ... but they aren't particularly easy sells. Maybe at the deadline for Drouin and Dadonov, if they can put together solid performances next season.

Only place I can think to send Drouin currently is Detroit. Most of their roster is coming up to UFA status after this year like him, and they have some good young pieces. Seems like a decent spot to play for your next contract with a bunch of like-minded players.

With this Petry deal we keep the C and RD positions filled, but with cap savings, in money and term in the case of Hakanpaa. I like Dvorak but I feel like he is more middle 6, and with Dach now in the system, we probably rather pay Faksa to perform that bottom 6 role with Evans? I am not sure who would end up having to sweeten this deal, Montreal is sending a bit more quality, IMO, but obviously the cap savings are vital for them too- maybe its even as is?

With the salary going in and out Dallas gets Petry and Devorak for an increased cap hit of 5.95 mil. This also does not fix our problem of only having one right shot dman.

Take out Hakinpa and replace with Hanley then retain a million on Petry. A deal could be had

Petry is a much better shot than Hakanpaa, but I feel you. I also believe Hughes has already stated he won't retain on Petry's contract, though. If I did my math right, that deal should leave you guys with 12.5-13M in cap space this off-season... which will be just enough to sign Robo and Otter according to projections I've seen? 7-8M for Robo and as much as 4-5M for Otter?

If we took Hanley instead of Hakanpaa, maybe we retain on Dvorak instead, just to save some face for Hughes, but I would expect a little something coming our way in terms of picks in that case, a 3rd for a 4th/5th or something perhaps.

I would give you a forth before a fifth. Fifth rounders are like magic beans for us (Benn, Klingberg, Peterson, Turco all 5th rounders).

The problem with this scenario is after signing Robi and Otter we still need to sign 3 more players. Not sure we could figure out enough retention to make a move for Petry.
