It appears the Team Explanation didn't post: OPENING STATEMENT: The effort is predicated on 1) NYR will not be able to come to terms with Andrew Copp (I don't believe Ryan Strome is an option), ditto for all the names being bandied about, 2) Johnny Gaudreau leaving CGY and 3) CGY, looking at their roster without Johnny, opting to begin rebuilding effort. CGY will have to offer something attractive to get the ball rolling, and so will the NYR. What I am looking for in a C are good production and strength at the dot. TRADE FOR ELIAS LINDHOLM: I consider offering up Chytil and Kakko with picks, but that option left the NYR RW poor (I could not find attractive candidates for #2RW). So I replaced Kakko with Lundqvist and adjusted the picks slightly. There are a number of attractive forwards CGY can look to sign, they get back a C, in NHL ready RD, and two nice draft picks. The NYR get a C who is strong at the dot with good production numbers at an attractive CAP hit for two years. BALANCE OF TRADES: An afterthought. THIRD LINE: Time to give Cuylle a shot. Might even be Othmann out of training camp (Drury dropped some indirect hints on this issue, and both will get a good look in camp). Vitali gets his shot at RW. If he can't play defense, then Blais moves to 3 RW. NICO STRURM: Nico is strong at the dot, perhaps a tad light on the production. Can always be moved to 4C down the road. FREE CAP SPACE: $1.6M leaves plenty of wiggle room. FINAL THOUGHTS: Under this scenario, losing FILIP and NILS is with regret. The "Breadman Effect" added 15-20 pts. to Strome's production. Artemi should have the same affect with Elias. The team presented is much stronger at the dot which means more O-zone time, particularly on the PP, and a less taxed D. Hell, Igor may now have time to read a good book! With Brennan up to the big club not to far down the road, who knows.
