Really depends on if they are comfortable with Brannstrom playing on the right side or not. I'm sure they would want to move out Zaitsev first if they were taking on Muzzin, so I don't see that as the move for OTT at this time.

Toronto might just hope the Sandin thing blows over and not do anything about it. If Toronto, is asking for a sweetner from OTT it's going to be Zub and they would offer Holl in return, and I know Dorion would hate to move Zub and would probably just ask for Sandin (over Holl) or completely shoot it down. Let's see how this shakes out. I don't think it would be favorable for the Leafs if Murray isn't lights out.

Artem Zub is not going to be the sweetener in a Murray deal. I think that’s wishful thinking on ur part.

I don’t think the senators consider your proposal to be honest

Same, but I think that's what the Dubas would ask but Dorion would refuse.

Someone on twitter was claiming that they are trying to use Brown as a sweetner, seems like a terrible trade for the Leafs, unless the retention on Murray is 50% (perhaps a 3rd/4th going to another team to eat like 750k) at the least. If this does go through then Dorion kind of gets off easy with the sweetner.

I could c him retaining on Brown to move Murray if he isn’t getting anything of value back. Using a 25 year old right handed d man who can play top pair to move a two year deal is beyond asinine tho.

Muzzin is injury prone tho. He’s an aging defenseman and Ottawa doesn’t need another lefty.

They are both injury prone (Muzzin is just kind of assumed since he had multiple concussions and the nature of that injury), and yeah if Brannstrom is ready and they wouldn't put him on the left side then it wouldn't make sense for them. His cap hit is probably too large as well.

That’s the kind of idea that gets shot down 30 seconds into the call and it isn’t worth discussing. Retaining 50% on Murray and adding a sweetener is beyond asinine.

Brannstrom could play right side, but they would still have Holden for their 3rd pair 🤷‍♂️

I don't think Zub will be in there, but I could see Dubas trying which could be asking for less on Murray retention and sending something of value back. I do agree that Dorion would probably not go for that, if he does it's going to be a mistake.

I do think sens fans will end up being more happy with the trade than Leafs fans if it does happen.

I think the only way it happens is if Toronto is paying a third team to retain. Dorian isn’t gonna move an asset to dump Murray and retain real dollars imo.

Holden only has a year, so if they thought Muzzin was an upgrade on him then I could see them moving him out. I can't say for sure what they would or wouldn't do on that part.

Moving Holden isn’t the issue. The issue is bringing in Muzzin when they have four decent left handed options as it is.

Yeah, that would make sense for the trade off, since a Zub replacement will cost assets and 3m-4m at the least.

Maybe they are gonna split the cost of dumping him. Like Toronto pays someone to retain half his salary and Ottawa pays another team to retain a quarter. Or they just split the cost of moving half his salary and Ottawa has him off their books.

Yeah, there's also the implications of Murray getting bought out next season by a team for OTT to consider in terms of retention (I have no clue what they would be).

Will be interesting to see how this shakes out, the results of this deal might lead to the end of Dubas' tenure as Leafs' GM or a 5 year extension.

You can usually cover for that with conditional picks.

6 months of leaf fans telling us mrazek was an asset not a dump, No they are trading for someone who is just as bad but they need all these sweeteners to take Murray on. there must be something in the water.
