For better asset management, if nothing changes, it might be probable that Byfield starts in the AHL and Kupari starts in the NHL due to waiver exemption status.

Also, it's all kind of moot if Arvidsson starts the season on IR.

Everyone fits.

Vilardi = 1 year @ $874,125 (qualifying offer)
JAD = 1 year @ $787,500 (qualifying offer)
Anderson = 1 year @ $2.5M
Durzi = 2 years @ $1.25M

Frk signs somewhere else.

The original timeline was 3-5 months 2 months ago on Arvidsson so unless his recovery is on the longer end of that he should be available opening night.

I just double checked and ya his QO is 874K not 940K.

Which player between Byfield ands Kaliyev go to the AHL to allow JAD and Vilardi to sign there one way contracts? Or ru sending someone else down and risking wavers to start the season? Could we bury a one-way to start the season to avoid waivers?

Byfield or Kupari starts in the AHL this season. Spence and Bjornfot will both be in Ontario as well. Unless he has a breakout training camp, Andersson will hit waivers. If Andersson does decide to finally be good, then JAD likely gets traded or waived.

Byfield and Kupari would have to start in the AHL next year if the kings resign JAD and Vilardi. That would be 13 one-way contracts and Kaliyev being the only 2-way waiver exempt forward. I don't hate that but who do you think would play 3C and 4C to start the season? I guess they could cut bait before opening night with either or Anderson and JAD but I would trade JAD before getting to waivers

Why?

Fiala-Kopitar-Kempe
Moore-Danault-Arvidsson
Iafallo-Kupari-Kaliyev
Lemieux-Lizotte-Grundstrom
Vilardi
One of JAD/Andersson

Byfield and the other of JAD/Andersson to AHL.

If Arvidsson starts the season on LTIR, then Kaliyev moves up to 2RW, Vilardi goes to 3RW, and both JAD and Andersson can stay on the team.

I was assuming JAD and Andersson would be given a chance opening night if they were QO'ed but one could be sent down right away and risk waivers. How common is it to resign a guy and send him down during preseason? This is only the second season I have followed the NHL to this extent of researching contracts and reviewing the CBA etc.

They won't send him down during preseason. They'll give him every chance to make the team during training camp, and they'll make a decision on the final day.

The reason why Andersson chose to take a deal for significantly less than his qualifying offer amount of $918k, is because his QO would have been a two-way contract, while the deal he signed at $750k, is one way. That leads me to believe that he expects to play at least part of the season in the AHL. $750k is a lot more than the $70k he would have made in the AHL had he accepted his QO.
