Getting a defenseman

Description
I think the value here is about right. Brannstrom is a young guy, currently a 5-6 defenseman who can move the puck. Formenton has proven he is great on the pk, a speed threat, and can score 20 goals. As well as a 1st rounder that Arizona wants. That may seem steep if you are the Sens, but there are guys that can plug into Formenton's spot (Greig), and guys who can plug into Brannstrom's spot (JBD/Thomson). You could sub brannstrom out for a pick, or one of JBD/Thomson. But I think Formenton stays. Arizona probably wants a player in return who can play now, and has some team control, if I were to guess.

Chicago gets a 2nd rounder, and a decent prospect in Jarventie in order to take Zaitsev. If the prospect ask is higher from Chicago, the draft pick would be much lower (6th or 7th rounder).

With two teams in the Bedard sweepstakes, Zaitsev only helps you.....

I think Arizona probably accepts that, though they could probably get more.

With the market today and the recent trades around the league being a bit of an underwhelming return compared to what’s talked about on here, it wouldn’t surprise me to see a Chychrun deal like this happen, though the return should consist of more and probably doesn’t, but this is probably a close realistic trade.

I think it would be better to move Greig than Formenton. We know what Formenton is, which is a third line stud that generates offensive opportunities on more traditionally defensive or neutral lines. I think JBD, Greig, an unprotected first, and maybe can just do Zaitzev+ a second as well and get the trade in one. I think start Chychrun on the left side with Sanderson either getting used to the pace in the AHL or third pairing. If we dont shelter him we risk what Montreal had with KK, and Sanderson forming bad habits. Then once Sanderson can play up into the top 4, move Chychrun to the right side

That's where I am at as well. Its decent value, but I don't know that it is the home run that they wanted. Maybe they could hold out and get more. Maybe a contender knocks their socks off, but it looks to be in the ballpark.

I thought of combining the two trades actually, and just giving it all to Arizona. That could work, although its a lot of contracts going one way, and not a lot going the other for one team.

I'm with you on sheltering Sanderson a bit to start. They can't rush him. With a trade like this I don't think they have to rush him in top 4. I don't see Sanderson being a 22 minute a night guy, I see him closer to 16-17 to start. Play him in the bottom pairing minutes, and sprinkle him in with the top 4 during periods of games. Give him a taste, but no need to push it.
