I thought of combining the two trades actually, and just giving it all to Arizona. That could work, although its a lot of contracts going one way, and not a lot going the other for one team.
I'm with you on sheltering Sanderson a bit to start. They can't rush him. With a trade like this I don't think they have to rush him in top 4. I don't see Sanderson being a 22 minute a night guy, I see him closer to 16-17 to start. Play him in the bottom pairing minutes, and sprinkle him in with the top 4 during periods of games. Give him a taste, but no need to push it.

With the market today and the recent trades around the league being a bit of an underwhelming return compared to what’s talked about on here, it wouldn’t surprise me to see a Chychrun deal like this happen, though the return should consist of more and probably doesn’t, but this is probably a close realistic trade.</div></div>

Ya thats my bad, he is a left shot. He was listed as a RD. All your points are valid. DJ doesnt like guys on their off side! Even if they got him and flipped him for something else, I think its a worthwhile exercise at what it would cost you. Hague would be a huge get as well, but there would be a lineup for him.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Radu47</b></div><div>Good concept ✔

With the picks</div></div>
Thanks, I like the concept too!
I would head after some Teams that are tight against the cap that might need some relief.
Who would immediately come to mind would be Marchessault, or Martinez out of Vegas (they will likely need to do something to be cap compliant in the offseason, and re-sign Hague). Maybe a 2nd and a good prospect for one of those guys?
I think Winnipeg might need to lose someone in the offseason too, with Copp, Dubois, and some of their young guys coming up for contracts. Maybe you can peel a defenseman out of there(Schmidt?).
Florida might be a good target as well, with Barkov and Verhaeghe contracts kicking in. Maybe you can get Gudas or Montour out of Florida for a 2nd round pick?
Vancouver as well, they have high payroll, and likely want to start to re-asses what they have. Package some picks together and a good prospect to try and get Boeser?
I am not suggesting to go after all of these players, but more as options on what you could try.

Get more picks in order to flip them for players at the draft
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>This makes a lot of sense, I'm surprised that we don't see it more often. Draft picks have their lowest value at the deadline and their highest value at the draft. Conversely, players have their highest value at the deadline.
Why aren't more teams buying low and selling high like you're suggesting?</div></div>
Thanks for the feedback and the positivity!! I have also kind of wondered that in the past, why aren't picks acquired more when teams are valuing them less, then flipped when teams are valuing them more? I think you need to be in a unique situation, but you need to following:
- Expiring contracts that are attractive to contending teams
- Not at the beginning of a rebuild, where you want to hoard as many picks as possible.
- You have salary cap room to make trades without going $ in, $out. Have the capability to be relief for cap strapped teams who might be willing to let go of some players with higher value contracts.
If you are setup with the above, you position yourself well in my opinion.

I think we are all forgetting that most GMs have this thing, deep down, that they see former top end first rounders and think they can change them. I am picturing Curtis Lazar, who was a 4th liner at the time, should have been in the AHL, but wasnt. Didn't have the skill, size, or production of Logan Brown at the NHL or AHL level. They got a 2nd rounder for him in 2017. Why? Because he was a former 1st rounder with pedigree.
If you don't want the Wild to give up a 2nd for him, that's more than ok. At the end of the day, its all a chance! Take a chance at who you pick at about 45th overall(2nd round pick), or take a chance on a 6' 6" 23 year old centre with size and skill, and a history of injuries. Roll them dice.
BTW, I love the heated discussion here. YES HA HA HA YES!!!</div></div>

He's got tons of skill and a really good player when he is playing, but if he's not playing, what is that skill doing for you? I want nothing more than for him to stay healthy and be a 2C /PP guy, I just don't know that he can stay healthy long enough. Ideal world, he is healthy the rest of the season, gets a chance with Stepan out, and holds onto the roster spot. Here's hoping!

Those players for sure stink, but Boucher is by far the most at fault. His fault for not being able to recognize the difference between a guy that's good defensively and a guy that blocks shots because he doesn't know how to get the puck out.
I know the Sens are just going to play out his final year, but man I wish they would fire him. I bet Dan Bylsma would come cheap for another shot at a head coaching job</div></div>
You nailed it there. I never thought about replacing the coach as an option because that costs money, but seeing as they would only have to pay Boucher out for the rest of this year, maybe that is more of an option than I originally thought. It would be nice to not see them allow 45 shots/game.

You're right they have other defensemen. In my mind, Wolanin, and Jaros should replace Boro, and Harpur. But I think we can agree that there are many more questions on defensive prospects than forward prospects, right? That's all I'm saying. A little more balance. Dunn would fit in well on their top 6 right now, and could probably log 18 minutes a night without affecting his development(and he can take minutes away from Boro and Ceci), where I'm not sure I would put Wolanin or Jaros in that spot right now.

Simmonds for Hoffman +
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CMac66</b></div><div>I'm not so much a fan. Hoffman is the Sens most (only lol) dynamic, best puck handling and best shooting forwards. Not sure why the Sens would have to add Claesson either.
Not that I don't want Simmonds, he's awesome, I just wouldn't trade Hoffman for him.</div></div>
Its a big price to pay, I agree. I thought they would have to add Claesson because Simmonds' cap hit is low, and has equal to, or better production than Hoffman for a longer period of time. The reason I proposed it, was because Ottawa is in desperate need of a forward to who plays big, can get to the front of the net, and has skill. Simmonds would do wonders for their powerplay, more so than Hoffman could at this point. Hoffman is an incredible shooter, and dynamic in open ice, but they have a lot of that type of player (Karlsson, Turris, Stone, Hoffman, Brassard to a lesser degree). I think a bit of a mix in the top 6 forwards would serve them well.
Out of curiosity, if you traded for Simmonds, what do you think a fair trade would be?

Tavares trade

As other's have said, I'm not sure it makes Sens better in the short term, although sens would finally have that coveted #1C to play with Karlsson that they have been missing since Spezza departed, I'd do this if Tavares has agreed to an extension.</div></div>
That's what I am thinking it would take to get a #1C like Tavares. As a Sens fan, I love Turris, and I love Hoffman. But in order to get what is extremely hard to find, you will have to overpay. I agree with Palhal, you need to address the LW position after this trade (probably through UFA), which I have not addressed in this post, and should have. However the idea of having Tavares, Brassard, Pageau, and Smith/White as your centre ice is very intriguing.
Thanks for the input!

But you really want Smith and of injured MacArthur as top two LWers?</div></div>
My hope is that Tavares had an off year last year. And for the amount that he makes next year (just over what Hoffman makes) that gives Dorion the room to get another dynamic winger if they see fit. Much easier to find than a top 5-10 centre in the league.
That's a big price to pay, no doubt. But trying to match up against the likes of Matthews, Eichel, Stamkos, Bergeron, all in the Atlantic for the foreseeable future, scares me.
All that being said, you're completely right, counting on Smith and Macarthur as your top two LW is a very bad idea. Would have to fill that void for sure.

If I am Colorado, I do that deal. Czarnik should be a 3rd line winger. Zboril I believe will be a 2nd pairing defenseman. Miller is a 5 or 6 defenseman. Senyshyn is a project, but should be on your 3rd line in a couple of years. And a 1st rounder. All for Landeskog who is right now a second line winger. Comparable to the return that Colorado got for Ryan O'Reilly a year ago, and O'Reilly in my opinion a better player than Landeskog.
I think this is reasonable return for a good player in Landeskog.

Don't get me wrong, I am not expecting production out of White. He seems to me to fit well with Pageau and Smith because of his two way game. If he doesn't fit there, you can put him on the 4th line, or send him home, and not burn a year on his entry level contract.
Its far from certain, but the math actually sways in favour of Ottawa. According to sports club stats, they sit at 68% chance right now of making the playoffs. The equalizer would be that they play more road games in the second half, and if Anderson can't come back for a while and they have to ride Condon into the ground, they will be in trouble.
