Description
I like Formenton a lot, but I also like capable defensemen....a lot.

At some point, I think they have to move a good young forward for defensive help. They don't have much right now, and nothing coming in the immediate future (just Bernard Docker and Tychonick but they are 2+ years away)

What do you mean they don't have anything coming in the immediate future?? Jaros could probably step right into Ceci's spot and be effective, and Wolanin is just half a step behind him. Help is there, Boucher is just too stubborn to notice it.

I like Dunn, but trading Formenton would be a mistake.

You're right they have other defensemen. In my mind, Wolanin, and Jaros should replace Boro, and Harpur. But I think we can agree that there are many more questions on defensive prospects than forward prospects, right? That's all I'm saying. A little more balance. Dunn would fit in well on their top 6 right now, and could probably log 18 minutes a night without affecting his development(and he can take minutes away from Boro and Ceci), where I'm not sure I would put Wolanin or Jaros in that spot right now.

Wolanin could certainly use a bit more seasoning, but everything I've seen from Jaros makes me think he could handle taking on a significant NHL workload.

I'm not saying Dunn wouldn't help the team, I just don't think it makes sense to pay that big a price for him. If you can package Formenton + Ceci plus maybe picks to bring in a legit top 4 RD then sure. But to trade him for a guy who will make our left side a bit better until he loses that spot to Wolanin doesn't make sense. Even playing him on his offside isn't a great option imo
