Patience with the kids

Description
In a series of 3 ACGM, here's how I see how Habs are aiming for 2024-2025.

Key is: Don't rush the kids up. Let them get experience in Laval for 40 games, then let's see what happens. Tank another year and aim at another Top 5 pick. Yes, we will have another miserable year.

1. Petry should be traded, many insiders are saying it will be done in the upcoming days/weeks. It would then make space to be cap compliant.
2. Byron should start on IR.
3. Allen could be traded since Price is ready to come back at full health, and I am comfortable with Montembeault as our backup.
4. Hughes will certainly try to get rid of Hoffman this summer. At this point he's a cap dump, and with all our picks in the next few drafts, I would be OK to pay to unload him.
5. Drouin, Dadonov and Byron will get traded at TDL with retention to get some more picks/prospects.
6. Give Slafkovsky 9 games in the NHL, then send him in Laval with 1st line responsabilities. Or send him right away and recall him at end of season.

Laval would then have a solid and balanced team competing for the Calder Cup:

Slafkovsky/Mysak/Ylonen
Harvey-Pinard/Schnarr/Belzile
Heineman/Kidney/Roy
Gignac/Hillis/Teasdale
Condotta/Richard/Stephens

Guhle/Barron
Norlinder/Fairbrother
Xhekaj/Leskinen

Why don’t you move Gallagher ( if he waives) and Anderson too if rebuilding?

Armia and Gallagher are impossible to move without giving assets right now, they have negative value. I'd rather keep Armia another year and trade him when we can get something in return. Gallagher can be a good mentor for our kids.

For Anderson, it depends on the return, but I'd like to keep him to have a big power forwards 2nd line with Dach and Slajkovsky (see my other 2 ACGM).

Wouldn’t the whole team that isn’t prospect have negative value right now or close to after last season

Yup, sadly most of our veterans have negative value right now due to their contracts.

If Petry goes to Dallas for a third after last season and no retention. It would help what you want very well. Slafkovsky got so many bonuses that he will likely player over the slide rule. Nearly 4.5 million a year if he hits all the bonuses.

Yup, key here is no retention. The trade will happen if the return is good enough for Hughes. If it didn't happen already, it must because either Dallas doesn't wanna pay the price for the full salary, or Dallas is willing to give the desired return but with retention. There's no rush to trade him, we just have to wait a little bit more like Sakic did with Duchene.

Petry may not even happen this offseason. They may wait and see if he can play like the previous 3 or so seasons before the risk of 6.25 million for him is taken

Minnesota declines. We don't need Jake Allen. We aren't committing cap or any asset for him either
