Just send him in Laval for the kids there, especially since we don't have RHD in Laval
And please, put Xhekaj where he belongs on the 3rd pairing</div></div>
Wideman is in deed a great locker room guy, but he takes Kovacevic's spot. We would need to waiver him and probably lose him for nothing to keep Wideman. And in Laval we have Mailloux and Allard (who I resigned).
I put Xhekaj on the 2nd pair because he's a good match with Matheson's style, and because Harris/Barron are also a good duo, it has nothing to do with 2nd or 3rd pairing.

As willinlisbon said, Beck won't be eligible to play in AHL, so it's either OHL or NHL. I think Mailloux starts in Laval and IF Dorak is somehow traded for PLD, maybe he starts with MTL. I doubt it though.

Team getting younger
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>danielcoe</b></div><div>Yes dvorak only gets traded if we get dubois.. but Beck was the last cut last season and he is very ready and has a good chance of making the team or he will be in laval ... only mesar should stay in juniour but i can see all of the kids playing in laval.... What about Maiilloux... he could stay in juniour as he lost a whole year of development</div></div>
Mailloux will be too old to return to OHL next season, it's either AHL or NHL. If ever he has a stellar training camp, he could take Barron's spot, but the best decision would be to send him to Laval and let him play with Struble on 1st D pairing.

But to get something, you have to give something. Not sure WPG would take Kidney/Mysak/another C prospect over Beck. Values don't add.

100% agreed.
But.
In Montreal, losing 3-4 years in a row is not an option. That's why I think HuGo will want to accelerate the rebuild. We must also take into consideration that in 2026, we will have to renegotiate TV rights, and with a good team on the ice, numbers will be higher.

CAR got their revenge by OS KK and MB deserved all of this. Good for them.

OR
MTL could OS Dubois 1 year/6.2M, therefore only having to pay a 1st and a 3rd in 2024. WPG would be in the same situation where if they match, they'd lose Dubois for nothing in 2024 since they couldn't trade him for a year, but with less return.

Fixing the 3rd line
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Burnout</b></div><div>Montreal is rebuilding, there is no reason for Montreal to trade Dvorak for that kind of return. He occupies a spot on the roster to shelter other guys, he isn't blocking anyone on the roster and they don't need the cap space. If the choice is keeping Dvorak or trading him for a guy that would block guys on the roster, then the choice is very easy.
Your argument only makes sense if Montreal was incentivized to get rid of Dvorak's contract. They are not.</div></div>
I'd also add the fact that Hughes wants Dach as our 2nd C. He's getting better, but he's not there yet. Dvorak can take the pressure off Dach with D-zone faceoffs and PKs to let Dach develop his game. Don't forget that the 2023 draft is LOADED with high potential forwards in the Top 10. Excluding Bedard, there are still Fantilli, Carlsson, Smith, Yager and Dvorsky who are all C. Will one of them eventually take Dvorak's spot at 3rd C? Take Dach's? We don't know, but we don't have to rush a decision since we got time and cap space.
So, we keep Dvorak until 2025 TDL, then we see if we can get a good return.

Just let this rebuild/retool breathe. Not everything needs to happen now and I think we can give ourselves another year and draft before rushing into getting a RD.</div></div>

Unless he plays with Suzuki and Caufield (which I highly doubt), he would play with Dach and Anderson (who aren't putting many points on the scoresheet) or Dvorak and Gallagher (whose roles are mainly focused on DZ faceoffs). And since Hughes will want to put Drouin and Dadonov in good situations to raise their values for TDL, I don't see where Beau fits in our lineup.

Thread:
Serious Offer
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>You rationalization of lowball offers went off the rails when you assumed Dubois and his agent "have said multiple times he wants out of Winnipeg." Dubois and his agent have NEVER said he wants out of Winnipeg. Just that he intends to go to UFA before signing long term anywhere.
Dubois also has never said he will only sign long-term in Montreal. While I'm sure Montreal media portrays it that way, all Dubois' agent said is that he wouldn't mind playing in Montreal someday. Just like Tkachuk wouldn't mind playing in St. Louis and Huberdeau wouldn't mind playing in Montreal. Yet neither of them signed long-term in those cities.
So, you need to rethink your rationalization. While Montreal fans mistakenly believe they have all the leverage in this situation, the reality is they have no leverage.
Meaning Montreal has no leverage to force Winnipeg to take a far below market value return in a trade.</div></div>
This. Montreal's media is terrible with their coverage of the team.
As a Habs fan, the way I see it is we should not trade for Dubois this year or even next year, unless we can move a bad contract (but it won't happen). If Dubois really hits the FA market in 2024 as he said, and if he really wants to play in Montreal, then sign him as a UFA. Period. This will accelerate the rebuild and Dach or Dvorak will become available as trade bait to acquire a good RHD.
But before doing this, we'll go through 2 drafts, and there are good chances we draft a Top C in one of those 2. Or maybe Dach will finally explode and reach his potential as 2nd C. There are many maybes along the way, so we might not even need PLD.

It says a lot about HABS fire power
Time to trade them both. Make space for the young guns, Joshua Roy, Riley Kidney, Jesse Ylonen, Filip Mesar etc.</div></div>
Roy and Kidney need another year in the Q and probably a year in Laval. Same goes for Mesar. Ylonen is the only one ready to take a spot, and that will probably happen after Drouin and Dadonov are yraded at TDL. We can wait one or two years before trading Anderson, if ever he's traded.
