Fil de discussion CANADIENS saison 2022-2023 season THREAD
Guhle and Slafkovsky won't play in World Juniors this August, meaning they should at least get 9 games with MTL. With Byron on LTIR, we should have the needed cap space to be compliant.
Harris starts with Laval, then swaps with Guhle for the season.
If Price is healthy, try to trade Allen before the start of the season or else we could lose Monty on waivers.
We play veterans who could fetch some return at TDL and let the kids develop in Laval, with a solid team that will a have a great shot at the Calder Cup.
Opening night:
Slafkovsky-Suzuki-Caufield
Dadonov-Dach-Anderson
Drouin-Dvorak-Gallagher
Hoffman-Evans-Armia
Matheson-Savard
Edmunson-Schueneman
Guhle-Wideman
Price-Montembeault
Extras: Pitlick-Pezzetta-Bowey
After 9 games:
Drouin-Suzuki-Caufield
Dadonov-Dach-Anderson
Hoffman-Dvorak-Gallagher
Pitlick-Evans-Armia
Matheson-Savard
Edmunson-Schueneman
Harris-Wideman
Price-Montembeault
Extras: Pezzetta-Bowey
After TDL:
Ylonen-Suzuki-Caufield
Pitlick-Dach-Anderson
Hoffman-Dvorak-Gallagher
Pezzetta-Evans-Armia
Matheson-Savard
Edmunson-Schueneman
Harris-Wideman
Price-Montembeault
Extras: Bowey
Mysak, Mesar, Harvey-Pinard, Norlinder, Fairbrother, Xhekaj, all get some games for evaluation. Barron should also be called up in case of injuries, but I see him getting Top 2 D spot with Guhle with Laval.

If they really wanted to get max value, they could retain 3 million for 2 years and flip Guentzel to a contender early. The return on that would be pretty ridiculous I'd imagine given how much Hagel returned. Either way you can garner prime assets sooner with Guentzel than you probably can with Anderson.</div></div>
You're right, didn't think about flipping him next year lol

Yes, if we were contenders, you'd be 150% right, Hughes would do it and send PIT flowers and a box of good champagne bottles. Problem is we're rebuilding and won't be competitive until 2024-2025. So trading Anderson for Guentzel means that his contract ends in 2 years, he'll be 30, and there's a good chance we lose him for nothing. Anderson will still be there on a 2nd/3rd line bringing grit and his share of goals.

Habs have a surplus of wingers and LHD, we don't need to add another one. Also, Pitlick ha a really good contract and can play on any line, I'd rather keep him. Fair trade tough.

So we get rid of a really bad contract (without giving assets) and a good C against a good defensive C with 1 year left, a 2nd pick AND a former 1st round pick?

Montreal getting out of rebuild
Seriously, we need to stop with this PLD nonsense.
He will either be traded at TDL for a high price, or traded at next TDL for a high price, then become a full UFA.
MTL does NOT need to trade for him, espcially right now. Give time to Dach and see what he does this season, maybe we are lucky enough to draft Bedard or Fantilli. Therefore there is no space left for PLD.
IF Dach doesn't progress and IF we don't draft a franchise C, then if Hughes really wants PLD, he just has to sign him in 2024 FA.

And if he bounces back, they'd essentially paid a first, and whatever they can get at a deadline flip. Drouin will still get a return, just it wont be a "great" return. Like a second at best.
2. That honestly is the worst Miller trade I've seen. Like ever. That's even worse than Kerfoot + a first EZ get it done.
3. Wings want more to eat 3.4m for 1 year. Cap is king with Covid messing the cap up. It's more logical for Montreal to just keep him.</div></div>
4. Habs have no cap space to sign Kadri and they need cap space to resign Caufield, Harris and Barron in the next 2 years.
5. Signing Kadri for a 8M contract, at his age, is very risky. He had a career season last year, but I think he won't be able to sustain the same production. He will statistically decline in the next few years, therefore making him a long term liability for the team.

I'd do Girard vs Dvorak straight up. We would certainly suck at feaceoffs (hence my post earlier in that thread), but for this opportunity, it would certainly benefit both teams.
A 2024-2025 D squad looking like Girard/XXX, Guhle/Barron and Harris/Mailloux is appealing af! We'd then need to trade picks and assets to land a Top 4 RD from a selling team.

But this season, Girard on your 3rd pairing is a hell of an advantage for another Cup run. You definitely should keep him, alternate Newhook and Compher at 2nd C, win another cup and then think all of this at the draft.
By then, Habs would also have a better evaluation on Dach and Guhle.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RichardAvs</b></div><div>IDK if you guys are selling or trying to contend this season? keeping Dvorak for face-offs wouldn't make much sense for Bedard.</div></div>
We're absolutely not contenders, but we just can't sell everything for anything. And I'm not saying your proposal is bad, it is very fair on paper, I just think it is not what MTL needs for the future.
Trading Dvorak means putting more pressure on Suzuki and Dach at the FO circle, and if they fail, this could delay or even destroy their development. Look at Galchenyuk. There is just no need to rush things up.
If Colorado called and offered this trade, I'd very, very politely decline and thank them for the fair balance. However, if Hughes is interested in Girard, they could try to negociate something else, like a package involving Norlinder, Mysak and a high pick. Does Colorado wants/needs this? I don't know.
Let's say Dach has a solid year at 2nc C and Suzuki gets better at FO. We have Evans at 3rd/4th C who can take that defensive duty. Then Dvorak becomes expandable. Would you make that trade next year?

Ylonen will get some games this year when injuries occur, but he'll likely get a spot next year when Dadonov, Drouin and Byron's deals are over. Until then, I'd prefer to give Ylonen Top 6 duties in Laval with Slaf, Mesar, Mysak and Heineman. But sure, he's part of the future and Hoffman is not. I just don't want to pay to get rid of him since we don't have to rush kids up.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jonh514</b></div><div>But that would be short-sighted. Paying a 2nd in the 55-64 range in 2024 to move Hoffman if you really believe you'll be able to trade Drouin for a pick in the 22-32 range in 2023 with salary retained at the TDL is not a good idea. I think Drouin convinces a few folks that he's part of the solution as a rental this season. Trade Hoffman... no will ever think he's part of the solution in the playoffs.</div></div>
Yup, I agree, we shouldn't pay to get rid of Hoffman this season, especially if Byron is on LTIR. We can afford to wait next season at TDL, or even let his contract end if we don't get anything of value.

Roy will absolutely play another season in the Q and try getting a 2nd straight scoring title home with Sherbrooke, playing along with Xavier Parent (who could sign a NHL contract afterwards).
Kidney will also play another year in the Q and challenge Roy for the scoring title.
Farrell is already committed to Harvard for this season.
But yes, in 2023-2024, I would love to see that line tearing it up in Laval, then in Montreal.

Nope, this doesn't apply to 18 and 19 years old players.
If a player who is signed to an entry-level contract and is 18 or 19 years of age (as of September 15 of the signing year), does not play in a minimum of 10 NHL games (including both regular season and playoffs; AHL games do not count), their contract is considered to ‘slide’, or extend, by one year.

Hughes must have reports from Montreal doctors saying that Byron will miss a huge part of the season, otherwise a big contract would have been traded.
The Price situation is different, they must not have all the information. That's why Allen is still with the team. If Price is cleared, Allen will be traded. If he's not, Allen stays.
Either way, Hughes has some space to work. If both are ready to start, then I see Drouin being traded because he's the only one who shouldn't cost assets to move.

Byron will probably be on LTIR all season long, there is our cap space. We don't have to pay to unload Hoffman. If we're lucky, we could even deal him at TDL for future considerations, or next year.

You should keep Girard and have the best D squad of the league. If you need cap space to resign MacKinnon, Compher, Newhook and Byram, then trade him at the draft. But with Cogliano, Johnson and Helm leaving, this should be enough to resign all of them, without trading Girard.

Very intriguing trade. I'd think about it for a long time.
But essentially, it's Suzuki for Byfield and Drouin/Harris for Clarke.
I'd remove Suzuki and Byfield and add FLA's 1st, so it would be Drouin (retained), Harris and a 1st for Clarke. Even then I don't think LA would do it.
