No we don't. Yes Girard would be our No 1 D, but Guhle is very valuable and is our future 1st D. We also need Dvorak to take faceoffs and free Suzuki and Dach of this pressure.

IF we were trying for Girard, it would be for other assets, like Kidney, Mysak, Ylonen, Norlinder and picks,

IDK if you guys are selling or trying to contend this season? keeping Dvorak for face-offs wouldn't make much sense for Bedard.

Montreal isn't touching that with a 10 foot pole. They don't need Girard and aren't moving Guhle.

Vegas doesn't consider that either, especially if Roy signs that kind of contract.

Girard is locked in for 5 more years, and Guhle isn't even proven yet. Maybe replace Guhle in this trade and you still don't touch it? Ahhh

Vegas needs to sign two more RFA's that play C and RW. I guess they could, but a second for RFA Roy isn't horrible

Girard is locked in, but his last season was really concerning. Montreal also doesn't need LD right now. They've got Matheson and Edmundson as vets and a number of strong LD prospects that they will be auditioning in the coming seasons. They don't have cap space to do a Dvorak/Girard swap, they're rebuilding so they don't really care about improvements now (if Girard actually represents that).

I get why the Avs would have no interest in a Dvorak for Girard swap straight up, but there's not much reason for Montreal to want Girard unless they're getting a really good deal. They're not going to be adding anything close to Guhle's value on a swap.

I think trading Guhle is a tough sell, but it would be a very balanced move for Girard. Colorado is getting a little expensive in its back end, which makes trading for someone on their ELC worth considering. You'd be trading apples for bananas in that their styles and roles would be very different on their respective teams, but it's reasonable and fair. Whether adding Dvorak then tips the deal too much in Colorado's favour could be argued. Sam Pollock would say always take the best player. In that case, if you're the Habs, there's little question you find a way to make this work.

Vegas isn't going to move a center of Roy's age and experience for a 2nd if he's that cheap. Come on.

We're absolutely not contenders, but we just can't sell everything for anything. And I'm not saying your proposal is bad, it is very fair on paper, I just think it is not what MTL needs for the future.

Trading Dvorak means putting more pressure on Suzuki and Dach at the FO circle, and if they fail, this could delay or even destroy their development. Look at Galchenyuk. There is just no need to rush things up.

If Colorado called and offered this trade, I'd very, very politely decline and thank them for the fair balance. However, if Hughes is interested in Girard, they could try to negociate something else, like a package involving Norlinder, Mysak and a high pick. Does Colorado wants/needs this? I don't know.

Let's say Dach has a solid year at 2nc C and Suzuki gets better at FO. We have Evans at 3rd/4th C who can take that defensive duty. Then Dvorak becomes expandable. Would you make that trade next year?

Probably. Girard is just way too talented to be on Colorado's 3rd pairing. Habs can build something nice around him on defense.

MTL don't consider that at all
The new direction are leaning towards big guys with speed and skill
I don't even think MTL would do Guhle vs Girard straight up even if Guhle is unproven
But 5M vs ELC can change a lot in terms of value for players
Anyway, MTL are good for now on the left side, they decided to go with Matheson to mentor Guhle Harris Xhekaj Norlinder (I can keep going with LHD prospects). Edmundson will be traded next year at the TDL so that will leave Matheson Guhle Harris full time. We really dont need another LHD

Matheson is a good guy to mentor the youth. I think he would be Colorado's 8th defenseman. Might as well bring in Jack Johnson

But this season, Girard on your 3rd pairing is a hell of an advantage for another Cup run. You definitely should keep him, alternate Newhook and Compher at 2nd C, win another cup and then think all of this at the draft.

By then, Habs would also have a better evaluation on Dach and Guhle.

It looks good on paper, but you don't wanna pay a top 4 young defenseman top 4 money and stunt his growth with no minutes

Leadership and on ice performance are two different thing. MTL are rebuilding, they don't have to be good. But if you wanna swap Matheson vs Girard so Girard could mentor the youngster I'm fine with that. If you don't want to take him, then he'll be mentoring the youngsters
