Offer sheet is definitely a possibility for MTL and Dubois. However, it is not a good idea to give your 1st pick when you are a rebuilding team in a draft where the top 10 seems really good (Celebrini, Eiserman, Helenius, Demidov, Kiviharju, Catton, Cole Hutson, Caswell, Tanner Howe, Adam Jiricek, etc.)

The much more agressive idea is to do a 4,2M offer sheet with an agreement of a big 8 year contract (with a compensation for the pay cut).

The most passive option (and possibly the most plausible) is to wait until UFA 2024.

Habs fans that keep racking their brains to come up with the most ridiculous PLD scenarios kill me...If PLD wasn't OS'd, and the Jets were able to trade him at the deadline, what do you realistically think they'd get? There'd probably be more quantity (late 1st, late 2nd, mid prospect?), but it certainly wouldn't involve what is pretty much guaranteed to be a top 10 pick.

Habs have PLD for one season (likely miss the playoffs even with PLD) and then PLD is a UFA. PLD then has Habs by shorts and curlies in contract negotiations. He can sign anywhere and Montreal will offer pay him just to justify the trade and trading of a lottery pick.

You forgot the part where dubois has to agree to take signifcantly below his value when his goal (stated for years) is to maximize his earnings. It's why he wants to hit UFA in the first place, bc UFAs get overpaid

The idea of this OS is to force Jets to match so that PLD become a UFA after next year and HABS sign him without giving up any assets.
