can they? they have 700k in space right now. They'll be looking to dump Kerfoot and Holl, I'm assuming, but seeing what just happened with the Flyers and JVR and the Knights with Patches, I'm not sure they would be able to cheaply.

holl and kerfoot are good enough players that teams will give the leafs assets to acquire. jvr makes a lot of money, but kerfoot only makes like $750k is base money, that’ll be attractive to a lot of teams.
just because of how good sandin is, i think it’d have to be north of $6 million before the leafs deceive to just take the compensation (maybe a little less if the picks are coming from a bad team)

I'm not sure I agree on either point simply because I think teams around the league will know what the cap situation is for the leafs and won't be eager to help, especially with UFAs out there right now similar to both of them.
