Do NOT give Romanov that comment he’s never even been a top 4 d man once in his career also why is Panik in the NHL

correct on Panik, one consistent about Ramanov we hear is he's a great guy can't see him not being worth that salary at some point minimum, better chance of it working into a steal of a deal. if it doesn't work out I'm sure Sorokin would be more than happy for him to carry his bags

I would not give him that contract right now but Romanov has had a #4 D impact the past two seasons

I would rather give him a 2-3 year contract to see if he will be good first

He just hasn’t though in any way his base stats aren’t really good at all, his micro analytics are pretty bad, his overall impact hasn’t been top 4, he did decent with St Louis as the coach but still not a top 4 d man

His counting stats will never be anything special, the things he does well (which shows up in his micro stats) are important things which shows up in his underlying numbers. He’s good defensively, hes very good at denying zone entries, drives possession , and and sets up high danger chances at an above average rate in the offseivd zone. Also There are plenty of defenseman with great analytics who are replacement level defenseman .

Over the past two seasons he has an above average defensive impact and he’s been decent at driving play offensively. That is a #4 D impact. If you can have an above average defensive impact without hurting your team offensively you’re a 2nd pair defenseman.

If Dobson wants to sign that deal I say you do it before he can change his mind.

Romanov, I want a little more out of before I give 8 years. I think the best move is a 2-3 year bridge deal for $3Mish. Worst case, it seems like the cap should eventually jump back up in a year or two, plus you have some older contracts falling off in the same time frame - I'd consider it the *best* case scenario if Romanov plays well enough that we look back at this post 2 years from now and say "we shoulda done this!"

Not sure if Nashville is looking to move Ingram but that's the type of return I'd want for Bailey - a mid-round pick and maybe a post-hype prospect with a little NHL experience for depth. Right now one of the bigger worries for me with this team is that once you get past the 23 man roster you have here, the only depth guys you have that have NHL experience are Panik/Andreoff/Koivula/Bardreau in the forwards, Aho/Hutton in D, and technically I guess you count Ken Appleby's 124 minutes in goal from 2017-18. Moving out Bailey and getting a guy like (to use an example we see so often around here) Joey Anderson and a 4th might not be the sexiest move, but I think there's something to be said for having depth with NHL experience.

He’s only had an above average defensive season once and that was this year and it was only for half the year he isn’t really good at all in transition I still have hope but nothing he’s done yet have proven anything to me
