Description
This would be a better team than if the Isles traded multiple assets for Miller or Kane. This solves the isles biggest weakness: play driving. Two years in a row the isles traded their best play drivers (Toews in 2020, Eberle in 2021). Isles fans underrate or don't understand that you need multiple forwards who can push play in the right direction and make the little plays to maintain possession in the offensive zone. All this talk about a "sniper" , but the isles don't lack finishers, they lack players who have the ability to keep the puck in the ozone In order to generate more quality scoring chances.

But Dobson is absolutely not getting that term or $ on this deal. It will be bridge at like 4 x 4.75mm per

If it’s a bridge it will be a 3 year because 4 brings him to FA

Dobson is not getting 4 years, and a 3 year deal starts at 5 mill. Save now, but eventually Dobson will cost 8 mill+ . He's better than sergachev who just got 8.5 mill.

overpayment for Puljujärvi. EDM wants to move him and he is not a top 6 forward (yet). And cap space can become a problem for them depending on LTIR and the other RFAs

He’s on the verge of breaking out, if it costs a 2nd rd pick to get it done you four. He’s profiles exactly like Troy terry before he had his breakout season. Puljujarvi is already a 2nd line caliber forward.

    8x7.25 for dobson????

Do you how RFA status works?

It's in both the player and team's best interest to make it a 4 year deal. Understand how the game works.

A lot of smart teams look to give their emerging stars long term deals. If Dobson gets 3-4 years now, it will cost in the 8-9 mill range to sign him long term on his next deal.

This is a better option than trading/ overpaying for a declining veteran.

This isn't true at all. By this logic you're paying for future play that may never happen. What if he never puts up 50 points again?

It gives teams security to retain him so he's an RFA again ont he next deal while seeing his real talent at his prime. It also allows Dobson to make th emost amount of money. Neither side would accept that deal

There’s a lot of smart teams that bet on future play. It’s a lot better to bet on a 22 YO than a “proven” late 20’s player who will regress once he hits 30 YO. Dobson’s value doesn’t just come from his production, he is an excellent puck mover and he’s proven over a large sample that he can drive offense and set his teammates up in prime scoring areas.

Dobson would likely make more money over his career by signing an 8 year deal now than a bridge deal. If he signs a 3 year bridge at 5.5 mill per and signs an 8 year deal at 8.25 mill , he won’t be a UFA until he’s 33 and won’t be able to secure a long term deal.

An 8 year deal now takes him to UFA at 30 YO where he’ll be able to get a 7 or 8 year deal.
