That is almost more value going to STL than what VAN got for Bo (and Bo is healthy, younger, and having a career year). Isles decline.

overpayment for Puljujärvi. EDM wants to move him and he is not a top 6 forward (yet). And cap space can become a problem for them depending on LTIR and the other RFAs

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Db1899</b></div><div>Romanov and Dobson won’t sign those contracts, Leddy might be worse than Chara.</div></div>
Romanov would sign that contract (he doesn't really have any leverage except staying in Russia, but a $2mm/yr offer from the Isles would be higher than what CSKA offered him). Agreed on Dobson. I don't think Leddy is worse than Chara, but I don't want Leddy signed for 3yrs, especially to be a number 5/6 D. A contract of that length also implies that the Isles have given up on Salo as being a top 6 D

Do it Do it Now
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>bagelbob</b></div><div>isles decline</div></div>
Rationale being: Mayfield is much cheaper than Barrie by 3mm and Mayfield has only one season left. Isles need the penalty killing and physicality that Mayfield brings. Barrie is an upgrade on the offensive side of the puck but a downgrade defensively. Isles are looking to gain cap space, not lose it. This deal does not make any sense for the Islanders.

Islanders trade for Patrick Kane with long-term outlook until 2024-25
Just look at the return for debrincat (with 2 yrs left instead of 1). If this deal is available, isles should take it. It’s effectively a salary wash for this season and the isles get a dynamic winger that they have needed for so long.
All of these comments saying too much to give up for a 34yr old…he still produced better than any islander last season. And who can the isles trade for that’s younger and with term (and would cost ~$5mm)? That player will be a lot more expensive. Debrincat was there, but isles didn’t get him, who is left?

Not enough for Debrincat.
Isles won't retain salary on Varly (maybe 500k, but def not half the value...Isles would need a 1B and that cost would match or exceed the 'cap savings'

Varly trade is a bit weak in terms of return. Also, dont think VGK has the cap space to make that deal work. Varly with 1mil retained and a 3rd for Hague and a 2nd sounds better.
Forsberg is a bit too steep of a price. 7 x 9 should be enough and that extra 500k does make a dif

The panik deal is dumb…why give up a 6th round pick to save ~$250k in cap space? Especially when your model has ~$4mil to play with.

I don't think a 4th round pick gets you 2.5mm in cap savings so I assumed it would still require the Isles to eat some salary - which they wont do

Josh Anderson doesn't even fit on the Isles roster - this rumor is nonsense. For reference, the Isles would have to move 2 rostered forwards to give Anderson a spot to play. Even if that happens, it wouldnt be to bring in Anderson

Isles decline...they can move Varly with no salary retained. At that price, they do not get any cap savings (once they sign a backup) and end up creating a worse team.

Isles should not do either trade.
Anderson is not what the Isles need and 13OA is more than he is worth with that contract.
Varly could return a 1st rd pick or at worst a 2nd round pick on his own. The jury is still out on Jonas, but to go forward with this trade, the Isles would to be a #5 D (LD) away from the cup. Especially with Halak being a downgrade from Varly.

I agree with not spending that much on Vatrano when Burakovsky and Nichuskin are not far off price wise. But, I don't think this lineup addresses the issues from last year. Trusting Salo is a risky move - especially when he couldn't get into the lineup at the end of the season and scoring has not been added. You have removed 28 goals (Bailey and Beau) and replaced them with Vatrano - 18 goals.
