I wouldn't be giving away bourgault for one year of Kane. It's our only promising right shot prospect. Depending on what happens with jp he should be seen as oilers most valuable prospect.

Rationale being: Mayfield is much cheaper than Barrie by 3mm and Mayfield has only one season left. Isles need the penalty killing and physicality that Mayfield brings. Barrie is an upgrade on the offensive side of the puck but a downgrade defensively. Isles are looking to gain cap space, not lose it. This deal does not make any sense for the Islanders.

yup, just can’t be paying 4.5mil a season for a guy to play on the third pair. chances are they don’t keep mayfield past this season either.

Islanders just brought in Romanov, who has the physical & defensive play that Mayfield brings

Even with that, you're paying Tyson Barrie $4.5M to play on the third pair because he's not good enough to push Ryan Pulock or Noah Dobson out of RD1/2. Mayfield is great in that spot because he's paid like a 6th/7th D and plays like a 4th/5th kinda guy - when Ryan Pulock was hurt this season he was playing top pair minutes and held his own. I can't imagine any universe where Barrie-for-Mayfield happens without Edmonton adding a significant piece - New York is eating an extra $3M of cap for you, so make it worth their while.
