Flames get the top 4 D-Man they want, a home town kid with Nylander, plus 2 picks in what looks like a deep draft. This sets them up for the “rebuild” that would end quickly, plus they have 2x 1A/B starters in goal with Vladar being solid.

Leafs offer $9.0 to Tkachuk who gets to play with buddy Matthews, Leaf’s shore up their goaltending and leaves them room to offer Sandin $2.2 x4

Makes sense for both sides. Plus the money works.

Calgary getting a worse goalie and worse player, plus Muzzin (nothing special). Then back of the 1st round pick and another 3rd. This only benefits Toronto. Calgary would need much much more

Calgary is going to get minimum for Tkchuk because he’s either going to get traded at low value, or walk as a UFA next season.
Markstrom won’t want to be in another rebuild, Nylander is probably going to be better than any other offer the Flames get. Murray will be better with a great D corps in front of him, so Calgary can get back on their feet with solid players faster this way, if they don’t get a great winger to play with Lindholm, he will be the next to walk. He and Nylander are the perfect pair for each other. This all makes sense and I’m not even a fan of either team.

Yeah I think Calgary will go the route of a 1st, top prospect, and a top 6 forward or top 4 D.

Muzzin has a NTC and they just traded for Murray

You think Calgary will get the minimum for Tkachuk? A true top line player rarely becomes available in the NHL. They will for sure get a 1st, too prospect, plus more. Markstrom was a Vezina finalist last year. This trade makes no sense. Toronto gets way better and Calgary gets worse without providing enough future assets.

I think the league waits and see’s who gets him for free next season. I honestly don’t see any team offering that much for a player who can walk for free next season.
At most a 1st rounder at deadline day.

As long as Calgary allows teams to negotiate with Tkachuk prior to the trade and have an extension agreed upon, then they could get value back. Buffalo did that with Reinhart last season when he had one year left.
