Just Dreaming

Initial Creation Date: Jul. 21, 2022

Description
Dare to dream...

Unlikely and hypothetical acquisition of Patrick Kane. The numbers work if the Oilers could route the trade through a 3rd team in order for them to retain more cap hit on Kane's contract (ie. Arizona for another $2.625M on top of the 50% retained by Chicago). Oilers give up a 2nd round for additional cap hit retention.

Signings of McLeod and Yamamoto which are all but certain to occur.

It's actually really close to a fair deal.

Hawks want futures, not players in their mid 20s, they just traded Hagel, Debrincat, and Dach. They let Strome and Kubalik walk. I can't see them being interested in anything other than the draft picks.

Fair assessment. It may take Bourgault or Hollaway instead of Samorukov. In that case, doubt the oilers want to give up those highly touted picks (and cheap contracts) for one years worth of Kane. Thus, this being very hypothetical.

Chicago may not want Foegele. Would need to shed his contract in a separate deal. Chi may ask for Bourgault or Holloway.

No it's not close, Foegle cost the 2nd to dump so retention is now not an option, Samorukov is worth absolutely nothing and provides the Hawks with nothing, so essentially you've assumed a 1st and an approaching Bust winger gets one of the league's best forwards to play the game at 50% off. It's a no from Chicago

I think its closer than you think it is. You have to remember that Chicago is lining up for the chance at Bedard so the chances of Kane resigning after this year are almost zero. They are not going to care about $5M retained given what they are going to ice this year but they are going to want asset retention for him. There may be better deals to be had but I don't think its going to command more than a serviceable middle 6 guy, 1st round pick and a blue chip prospect. Most GM's who's team are contenders (where Kane will waive his NMC to go) will not have more to offer than that. Just my humble opinion.

That maybe true, you didn't send a blue chip prospect you sent a prospect that will forever be in the AHL. And I disagree with the notion that better offers won't be out there, they will be teams are really waiting on the last few RFAs and Kadri and Klingberg to settle out before they can look at any real Patty Kane acquisition
