I’m still stunned this trade happened. The team went from dead in the water and in need of a rebuild to possibly better with one trade! It’s honestly shocking to me!

Yeah, I saw the Jfresh card of Weegar so was like "Oh, was he traded in a package for Tkachuk?" I scroll down and see Huberdeau's card and I'm just in shock, so I'm like "this must be a joke". So, I check friedman's twitter and see the trade, and I'm like "no way, Friedman must have been hacked"

I'm more nervous for FLR since they signed Tkachuk to 9.5mx8, if the drop off is significant, things won't look too good, and as long as Bob is still on the books, any potential overpay will remain significant.

If CGY ends up with at least 4 firsts in value, then they made the best of a bad situation.

I think because of everything he brings and with the cap likely over 90 by year three of his contract it won’t be that bad. For him to be effective he needs to be 85-90 points and bring the rest of his game. If he does that you’re fine with the contract.

Another great point I saw is they’re getting his prime whereas an 8 yr huberdeau deal has the potential to go bad near the end

When I saw FLA was the destination I was a bit underwhelmed. I didn't think they had the futures to do it.

Then you see what the package was and it was jaw-dropping. One of the more interesting trades in recent memory

Yep, I agree with the Tkachuk take, the problem is if he isn't at least that.

As for the Huberdeau take if that's from FLR's side I will say okay, maybe, but from Calgary's perspective they were willing to sign Gaudreau for 8 years and while Gaudreau has the better career PPG, once Huberdeau was able to get things together which was 5 years ago, he has been consistent after then and has slightly better production than Gaudreau in that time. Gaudreau was an elite player before Huberdeau but his inconsistency doesn't lead to much higher totals and he seems to do his best in contract years. Huberdeau is also pretty much consistently scoring 30G based on the last 5 years (in actuality or by pace).

Also, worth noting at 32 Tkachuk will get paid again if he's still good and that may be by FLR.

This trade has the potential to top the Hamilton trade by Treliving, when he got Hanifin and Lindholm (CAR was unable to sign them both I believe).
