Doing very little from here

Created by: Whiskerz
Team: 2022-23 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 23, 2022
Published: Jul. 23, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Man this team is gonna get caved in with two 3rd pairs... top 5 pick here we come!

This basically loads up the Barracuda for their first season in their own arena. They gotta be a much better team in order to sell tickets at 40% higher prices than seasons past where there was often <500 people in attendance.

Eklund likely spends about half the season in AHL as well if he is struggling to put up points after 20 games to start the season. If Eklund goes down to AHL, Lindblom will move up and Gregor will play 3LW.

Simek being assigned to AHL after training camp, while Grier works to find him a trade. Simek is still a solid 3rd pair physical D man who is excellent at stopping zone entries but is about 1M overpaid currently. Sending him down cuts his cap hit in half, so keeping Megna as 7th D is a net positive cap wise over Simek.

could always buy out Vlasic, get a couple of defensive veterans still on the market.

Honestly wish they would, but they seem deadset on keeping him part of the team. I think he gets bought out next summer to make room for Meier's extension.

does Meier want to play for a team destined to be mediocre for the next 5+ years though?

buyout window is closed unless someone goes to arbitration and wins. even then i don’t see the sharks wanting that much dead cap for that long. best to hold on a few more years hope he retires

Brink is a very good prospect, I could see flyers doing it for like a 3rd or 4th instead

sharks are about 2-3 years from relevancy. by 24 offseason we should have a huge core of younger players either up or fighting for spots in…
Eklund Bordeleau Coe
Gushin Robins Weisblatt
and
Cicek Merkley
Kinazev Laroque
with
Mann Gaudreau Makinemi

combine them with
Hertl couture Karlsson Ferraro and a bunch of other guys who aren’t considered core but are solid and 40+ mil in cap space and we aren’t as bad off as we look.
Meier 2-3 years into his 8 year deal would see the team he’s on pushing for a new cup window with him as one of our leaders should be appealing.

That is quite the unlikely and rosy out look for a middle of the road prospect pool and the detriment of cap anchors that all of the buyouts, Karlsson and Couture will be

sharks have one of the better prospect pools in the NHL (top 1/3) not middle of the pack and yes we’re lacking elite prospects and I won’t argue there, as is I think we really only have 1 in Eklund. but the rest i mentioned there are all prospects with Legit NHL futures, we add a top 5 from 23 with what we have and we have something worthwhile.
If he doesn’t want to say i hope we can get a good return for him otherwise i hope we keep him.

I'm gonna do a 23-24 roster soon to see what it will be like with a Meier extension on the books

How about buy out Vlasic and lets sign Ferraro already?

As much as everyone wants Vlasic gone on CF, we already know it won't happen this summer given Joe Will's comments. We may get lucky and it happens next summer
